Mashups
« on: 25 Nov 2007, 02:06 »

I stumbled across this gem during my journeys through the interwebs and I thought I would share:

R Kelly vs. Broken Social Scene - I'm a flirt/7/4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-YPaPSyU-Vc

Does anybody have any other well-done/novel/humorous mashups to share?

I've always enjoyed the Franz Ferdinand - Do You Wanna / Run DMC - It's Tricky / The Knack - My Sharona mashup. Perhaps made more entertaining by the fact the video is a mashup, too.

The most grotesque mashup I've ever heard is the one that always comes to mind when this topic......It's charmingly called 'Hump My Tunnel' -originally, the Arcade Fire's 'Neighbourhood #1 (Tunnels)' and the Black Eyed Peas' 'My Humps'.

Are you curious? And it's not your computer....it's silent for a few seconds in the beginning.

(ALSO I seriously love the Kells+BSS. It is way better than it should be.)

'My Humps'.

There was a fantastic thread on Something Awful a while back where someone added the vocal tracks from "My Humps" to a number of songs. I don't have an account but if I did I'd be sharing it mashed up with "The Final Countdown" right now.

My favourite mash up was this one I heard on the radio late one night.

It was the muppet theme and Electric Six's "Gay Bar"

This was the basic idea.

"It's time to put on makeup
It's time to dress up right
It's time to raise the curtain on the - GAY BAR, GAY BAR, GAY BAR"

There's a Linkin Park and Britney Spears's "Toxic" mashup that I've thought was funny.  Problem is I can't recall the LP song and the computer that had the file on it is currently under the whether.

I love mashups, and regularly go on day-long trawls through the interwebs to find new tunes. Unfortunately, I usually have to go through dozens of songs before I find one I really really like, but it's worth it :)

Here are some of the mashups on my list that've stood the test of time and my fickle preferences:

378. Jason Mraz Mash-Up With Chriss - The Joker/everything I Own (Happy Feet soundtrack!)
379. team9 vs. Stereogum - Young Cats (Peter, Bjorn and John vs The Cure) (3:16)
381. A plus D - Close To Konichiwa Bitches (Robyn vs. The Cure) (2:56)
384. dj lobsterdust - Notorious B.I.G. vs. The The - Skyline Operator (5:01)
385. DJ ZEBRA Rude boy in a forest (3:52)
386. Bobby Martini www.bobbymartini.co.uk - Catch A Lovesong (Kosheen vs The Cure) (3:53)
387. Divide & Kreate - A new treasure (4:45)
389. Stand By Me vs. Every Breath You Take (3:31)
391. bangers&mash, Leo Sayer, Missy Elliott, Pharrell and Q-Tip - b&m Breathe work dance like that (3:57)
393. Eagles vs. Daft Punk - Victim of Da Funk (4:31)
394. DJ Prince - Nighstift dance (4:32)
395. Kid-KO - A Deeper Rigby (4:53)
396. Cheekyboy - I Need Bananas Tonight (dirty version) (3:48)
397. Cheekyboy - Cheekyboy Duran Duran vs Ne yo (3:40)
398. DJ CHeezi - Mysterious Tweet (4:16)
399. EBTG vs. 2 Static vs. Stetasonic - Talkin' All That Missing Beat (3:59)
400. dj BC - Golden Peace Frog (2:53)
401. ilson - closertothelyte (5:29)
402. Big Ruckus - It Takes a New Sensation (3:27)
403. Cheekyboy vs Kanye West vs The Transplants - Diamonds and guns from Southend on sea (6:12)
404. LT - meaning of funksoul (2:48)
405. corporation - michael feels like green onions (3:01)
406. The Arbiters - Missing Sweet Love (The Arbiters mash-up remix) (4:06)
407. Pheugoo - The World Is Just An Illusion (3:26)

I used to rely on mashculture.nl but switched to mostly looking through mashuptown.com
