The most boring recommend-me-some-music thread ever

(1/7) > >>

sombrasoubrette:
I have a pretty good variety of music going, but when I'm sitting at home on my computer and I pull up Winamp I usually listen to stuff that's pretty much "indie" standards, you know, the Decemberists, Spoon, Neutral Milk Hotel, Pavement, New Pornographers, sometimes Broken Social Scene and the Arcade Fire, once in a while Wilco, stuff like that. Anyway, my current repertoire for lazy nights, much as I love it, is starting to cry out for some new additions. Ideas?

Jackie Blue:
I have an idea.  Sign up for last.fm and go nuts.

But, more specifically, the one album at the moment I would recommend as being completely utterly fucking awesome is Gowns' Red State.  It is stunning.

Katherine:
I second the last.fm recommendation.  I love that site so much. SO MUCH.

supersheep:
I recommend Boyzone.

JimmyJazz:
Well, you like Pavement, and the were influenced a great deal by the Fall. Get THis Nastion's Saving Grace by them. Some Elephant 6 (the pool of musicians Neutral Milk Hotel is derived from) groups you should check out arethe Olivia Tremor Control, Apples In Stereo and Of Montreal. A lot of the Arcade Fire's vocals, to me, sound like Will Sheff from Okkervil River, whose Down the River of Golden Dreams is a fantastic album. Uncle Tupelo was Jeff Tweedy's band before WIlco, and Son Volt is another band that emerged after the break up of Uncle Tupelo. Check em both out.
