Tommy my hair does that too, I refer to it as "poofy", although it is likely not the correct term. There is product you can get to help! (I used sunsilk's anti-poof creme). If you are okay with putting girly product in your hair, that is.

I assume you've already tried pomade and/or wax, right? That's probably the first step I'd go for... but I usually try to make my hair MORE poofy.

Is your hair naturally wavy at all, Tommy? You might try washing it with some conditioner instead of shampoo, because there is the same stuff in most conditioners that cleans your hair, but in lesser quantities. That way it doesn't strip all the moisture out. Stripped hair is unmanageable and poofy.

Also I don't wash my hair more than like twice a week, even with just conditioner. I don't think I've put shampoo in it since last month at all. My hair is pretty dry, though, so that is why I can get away with it. If you wash your hair every day because it gets greasy, then that isn't really an option.

that just means you have dry hair. use lots and lots of conditioner and if that still isn't enough, try adding an anti-frizz hair serum to your hair after you get out of the shower. a leave-in hair treatment once or twice might help you too.
you should also try combing your hair when blowdrying or straightening instead of brushing it because a lot of hairbrushes are specifically shaped to give more volume to hair.

Gah, my hair is just like Ptommydski's. Goes poofy as soon as it dries out, whatever I do. The fact that it's incredibly thick, wavy and wiry doesn't help either. Every time I go to a barbers they look at it then go get the bigger scissors. Plus I have to wash it often because it gets greasy.  :x

bob, your hair is probably trying to replenish the oils it's losing since you wash every day.  Try cutting down to once every other day.  Initially, it will look and feel gross, but after a couple of weeks, your body will learn that you're not stripping it every day anymore and relax a little.

My hair is about like Tommy's. I like it better when it is wet/dirty. I tend to wash it about once a week and it doesn't get too dirty. I'll wash it on Friday night and then by Monday it will be less poofy but not filthy. By Thursday it is almost nasty but I let it wait till Friday.

Wash your hair less frequently, sometimes try to use just conditioner and no shampoo. don't blow-dry it. Sunsilk DOES make a nice anti-poof serum, it's cheap too. Basically Tania is right, it's probably dry/lacking in natural oils.

Clean hair is a pretty new phenomenon, guys. Most people did not wash their hair more than once a week or so up until the late 70s and early 80s. If you have hair that has a few days' worth of oil built up you can more easily achieve the hairstyles that used to be popular, like the beehive and pin curls. Plus, until recently when people became obsessed with washing their hair every day, most hair products were more or less primitive and pretty bad for the hair, so you had to wait a day or two for it to get back to normal.

They're everywhere, really. And now with that twitter thing and facebook on mobiles, they invade the meatlands more than ever. Tommy probably has a sophisticated game plan with trajectories and angles of deflection and shit, but I've found it just as easy to draw them into a conversation about [insert awful band name here]. Then I cap the bitch with a poke-ball.

I swear I've poked that exact chick and near enough twenty of her clones over the years.

There's got to be a factory churning them out somewhere. Whichever record label came up with Millionaires probably just went in and bought three straight off the shop floor. Considering the fact that the same factory probably produced their audience too, it must be something of a self-sustaining industry by now.

I'm gonna go with Tommy here. I don't even think any one of those girls could pass a Turing test.

In regards to frizz. I have very fine hair and it only has slight waves in it. It also gets oily ridiculously quickly so I wash it daily.
This means I get the frizz that I think Tommy is talking about. What I have discovered is this stuff http://www.moroccanoil.com/ and by discovered I mean my hair stylist is cute and has pretty hair and she told me it was great and then told me it was $40 a bottle and I could not refuse by that point so now I own my own.
But it actually works really well in protecting my hair, you just put it on while it is still wet and it smells nice and it doesn't get greasy and most importantly it doesn't get frizzy.
It protects the hair from sun damage and the like and is all natural and tiny animal friendly.
Also because you use such a minuscule amount I have had it for about 3 months and am still just under the neck of the bottle.
Hope this helps?

People with greasy hair and whose hair gets oily quickly do need to wash their hair everyday, unless you do that thing where you wait two or three weeks or something without washing to let the oils reset and stuff. It is people with drier hair who do not have to. Really, people with dry hair shouldn't wash it every day, at least not with shampoo, because even with deep conditioning you just strip what moisture there is out of it. That is why I usually only "wash" with some generic conditioner anyway, because it cleans just as well. If you have dryer hair but your scalp gets greasy quickly, you can wash just the scalp every other day or so and just condition the ends.

Although it is worth noting in some cases that the reason that a person's hair gets so oily is because they wash it so much. Your hair gets trained to replace the oils that are stripped away by washing and they can be trained to replace slower as well. If you can go longer and longer without washing your hair it may seriously suck in the beginning, but eventually it'll get better.

In terms of anti-frizz products if any finds something that works for them, BUY IT IN BULK. I work for a huge chemists/cosmetics company in the UK & get tons of free samples and very very cheap products, esp. when they are at the end of the line....(Can you see where this is going?) everytime I find something that works, they've either already stopped making it or it never gets to the shelves.

I may just be mad because I had a beehive all weekend and my poor backcombed hair is unhappy with me.

Just remember that if (when?) you give it the chop then all the weight of the hair will be gone and it will go POUF! I am seriously considering cutting my hair short as well, especially seeing as it is coming into the warmer weather, and have come to terms with the fact that if I cut my hair short it will probably be untameable. But then I will be able to wear hats, which will be good in the sun.
