Guys, come gettin' my paycheck this Friday I'm dying my hair blue. Bright, glorious blue. And not just some of it, but all of it. I already know where I'm going to get it done, since I've never dyed my hair before in my life. My friend's girlfriend is a colorist at a hair salon and she'll do it for free as long as I supply the bleach, dye, etc.
this could either be awesome or horribly, horribly wrong. I'll post pics when I have them, but I've decided on this for the past week, I even asked and my job won't even fire me for it. (apparently pizza/sub shops near colleges are expected of this sort of thing. That and one of the other cashiers/delivery drivers has a mohawk, hella piercings, a neck tattoo and two full sleeves.)
to be honest with you...BLUE is the HARDEST to do....you'd have to bleach it til it turns WHITE before the blue can be satisfactory.
Yeah, the blue fading to green is pretty gross. But purple fades to grey, red fades to pink... The only solution I found when I was dying my hair crazy colors was to buy a whole bottle of the dye (there was a hair supply store near me that sold fairly decent dye for about $5 a bottle) and re-do it once every two weeks or so. But that, of course, basically ensures that you'll have majorly split ends. Being a hipster comes at a price, I guess?

I'd just ask any stylist. It's the bleaching that does the real damage, not the dye, and hairstylists will definitely be familiar with bleach damage.
I just leave regular conditioner in my hair for a minute or two, and it seems to do the trick, but I've only bleached once.

While I would agree that down to the waist is too long, hair just past the shoulders often looks great. Similarly, really short hair can look great too. There are too many variables to conclude that length alone determines whether or not a given hairstyle looks good.

i don't know if there's a lot you can do for your hair except grow it out and cut off those dead ends. investing in a good straightener would probably be a much better choice, as your hair really shouldn't be experiencing that much damage when you straighten it and it probably says a lot about the quality of the straightener you are using now. the one i use now was pricey but i've never had any hair problems as a result of using it. if anything people comment a lot on how soft and nice my hair is. it's also an excellent investment; mine's lasted over five years now and is still going strong.
Guys I am bored. My hair is finally back to a normal, masculine length and color. No more blonde tips, no more atrocious long hair that did nothing for my face. Except now I am bored and I feel like I look too conventional. I keep trying to achieve a stylish "bedhead" look but it does not go well. I've used Biosilk a few times (I can't stand any heavy, goopy hair products and Biosilk is the only thing that is light enough not to make me feel like someone shat on my head) but I have no clue how to style it so I end up making a mess and washing it all out. I generally wash it, don't condition it, towel it until it's half-wet to moist, and let the rest air dry (as opposed to when I had long hair- I washed it, conditioned it, and meticulously blow-dried it only to have it be frizzy and shit anyway). During the air-drying process I shake it out a couple of times and it settles like in this picture.
I basically have not been happy with my hair ever since I was old enough to care about what it looked like. Suggest anything at all, radical or not. I'm of half a mind to turn it into a mohawk (floppy, not spiked up, such as this one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37SOakZDpAo)). Though I am a pussy and in the end looking for something fashionable and handsome but not too conservative.

it was in response to the poster before me who said facial hair of any kind was "revolting" which i thought was an unnecessarily strong word to use. there is a difference between thinking something doesn't look particularly stylish and thinking it's utterly disgusting. i don't think armpit hair looks very good either but i'm not going to vomit if i see it on a lady, it's just hair. i sometimes go weeks without shaving though, so obviously i don't represent everybody.

You looked like a cross between Jonothan Coulton and Oscar Wilde beforehand, I would suggest returning to that look next autumn/winter. The new style is a bit close cut for my taste, but its a good look, perhaps a little more hawkish, but it will mean that by spring it will have started to grow out again and you can style it then at least.
I got drunk the other night and woke up with a new hair-cut. It's kind of a quiff/faux-hawky thing. I'm not sure how I feel about it now that I'm sober.
The cut I think is a great improvement. The biggest issue with curled out hair of that length is that it tends to look a bit unprofessional in dressy clothes.
I don't know about blow-drying but you shouldn't condition that much, a couple of times a week is best, usually. How quickly does your hair get noticeable greasy if you don't shampoo or condition it?
Just go to a good hairdressers (a unisex salon would be better if you currently go to a barber) and ask them to make it shaggy, not much shorter, and whatever else you want. You'll probably be pleasantly surprised at how much you like it.

At this point it's important to distinguish between "washing" and "shampooing". I haven't shampooed my hair in about five or six years (admittedly my hair these days is very short, but still it's incredibly strong and healthy). However I wash it every day - but I only use water. You just massage the water in thoroughly like you would with shampoo.

Although it is worth noting in some cases that the reason that a person's hair gets so oily is because they wash it so much. Your hair gets trained to replace the oils that are stripped away by washing and they can be trained to replace slower as well. If you can go longer and longer without washing your hair it may seriously suck in the beginning, but eventually it'll get better.
Also, I feel like the long hair is kinda your thing, it looks good.

I should mention that I'm happier with this haircut than any professional $10-20 haircut I've gotten in a while. And I can't afford a $50 salon cut, even in the unlikely circumstance that they can work with "make me look good" and nothing else, and get it right the first time.

And for it to be used as wig hair, it needs to be 10" or more, although they also accept shorter hair, I think they sell it for other purposes to help with costs.

Barbershop, preferably one with an old guy running it and only recent mags. 0 back and sides, #4 or so on top - high speed, low drag and easy to maintain. And in a pinch you can use your fingers as a comb. The downside - doesn't work well with thin hair.

Ugh, I have two cowlicks on the back of my head that makes everything much harder for both hairdressers and myself. Basically my two options are either shave them completely off like when I have short hair, or wear my hair long. At the moment I'm in the process of growing my hair out again, and I asked my hairdresser if there was any way of making the back of my hair not grow upwards and look terrible until it's long enough to not be called short anymore. She paused for a while and went "... no". Sigh!

cold pressed oils are actually really great for your skin. one of my favourite moisturizers that i adore but unfortunately cannot afford to actually use on a regular basis (this) (http://www.lush.ca/shop/products/face/moisturisers/gorgeous) contains extra virgin olive oil and it seriously does wonders for my face. it's the oil that comes out of your face that does more damage to your skin than the oil you put on it, and trying to strip it of oil entirely causes your pores to overcompensate and make even more, which causes breakouts.

How often are you shaving? A month seems like a really long time to go without switching blades. The rule seems to be that you'll get a week per blade if you're shaving everyday.
