Oh really? Harp is our thing, as the advert says. I love the stuff, and I generally don't love fizzy lager. As for extra cold, it's all I drink in England as it prevents me tasting how dirty (as they quite often are) the pipes are. As for Heinekin. the export stuff out of a tap is sublime but I wouldn't drink it from a can.

The only beer I've had that I've really like is Sam Adams, but it's only been recently that I've discovered that beer doesn't always taste like cat piss. Although I feel like something of a traitor when I say I'm not THAT impressed with Qingdao/Tsingtao beer, considering the first time I got drunk it was on that beer.

I'm a big fan of the Samuel Smith brewery in Yorkshire. Their pale ales and lagers are good, and I'm even partial to their organic cider, despite not generally being a big cider fan. Ayingerbräu is also a nice lager that they sell in a pub near me, very nice stuff.

Also, can't go wrong with ales produced by Woodforde's, especially Wherry.

I got two of these glasses for christmas.

Apparently they enhance the whole beer experience. I don't know about that, but they do look cool.

The Belgians make wonderful beers, but I don't know that I've ever had a good Belgian wheat beer. My experience is limitedto Blue Moon and one or two others though, so I'm not really in the know as it were.

Beers I have had tonight that were excellent:

Weihenstephaner Hefeweizen (The original)

Weihenstephaner Korbinian (A wonderful doppelbock with hints of orange, saffron,and chocolate)

Bers I have had tonight that were not excellent:

Blue Moon (Somone bought me a bottle right after the Korbinian. Could not taste it at all)

Budweiser (Self-explanatory, but free)

Tusker (May be good, but, as a rule, I do not like lagers)

Pilsner Urquell (All the flavor of a New York City sewer, now with less alligator)

Hmmm, belgian beers are divine! Incidentally, the first party i went to when i returned from oz, was a Duvel party. It was divine (and i got a cool hat out of it!)

Also, if we are showing off beerglasses, then take a look at this. (unfortunately, its all boxed up now, but, 95% of those glasses are mine, of which i maybe bought 20%

)

The only beer glasses I have are from Birra Tirana's Oktoberfest parties last year and this year.

I've got a 13-hour layover in Munich going back to Albania though, so I will most certainly drink me some beer (and probably steal the glass).

Best thing about living in rural Ireland: the ready availability of some of the tastiest pints of Guinness one will ever find, all for under €3.50 (compared to a fiver in Dublin.)

The Porterhouse, which has about fifteen of their own beers on tap and maybe 4-500 fancy bottled beers, is quite a nice place, and probably the closest pub to college for me. However, I'm not a huge one for the specialty beers. I really should remedy that.

Yeah, England's terrible for that. It takes ages to find pubs where they know what they're doing, helpfully my smoking-battered tastebuds make me a little more immune to it than some. You can really tell the morning after if they were dirty pipes though, it makes hangovers particularly nasty. The draught Heineken export has never grabbed me much more than the canned variety, but it is definitely a superior beer. I'd still go for San Miguel over it though.

I definitely second the Sam Smith's recommendation made above. Not only do they brew a good beer they're also pretty ethical, everything's vegan and they take away the used bottles for recycling. Well, they usually do. The place I volunteer at has a small mountain of used bottles sitting outside for collection now, but they're still good. There's a nice pub in Leeds called the Angel where all they have on tap is Sam Smith's, you can still get a pint for less than £2 and there's no sodding music drowning out the conversation.

My palate isn't that refined, so I generally can't taste too much difference between bottle or can once the beer's been poured into a glass, but Heineken is one that I definitely do. I usually prefer darker beers, but Heinie is drinkable from a bottle. From a can, it's just not enjoyable at all.

I am impressed by some of the beverage vessels you guys have. I was proud of myself because I finally have both pint glasses and wine glasses, in addition to cups and mugs. Most people I know just drink out of coffee mugs or straight from the container. College kids are not very classy.

I bought a case of the Sam Adams Winter Collection or whatever its called to try the Cranberry Lambic (my cousin talked it up). I can honestly say I have never been more dissapointed in a beer. Why do they even call it lambic when it fails to come anywhere close? Terrible beer.

Yeah, they've got a couple of pubs in London too, really reasonably priced, especially for the centre of London - around here a pint is going to cost you something not far off £3 at least in most places, but they tend to be closer to £2 in Sam Smith's pubs. I think the music thing is to avoid unnecessary overheads on rights and stuff, but it certainly makes having a conversation much more pleasant.

I know a dude who went to college with a can of Spam. After he ate the Spam, he drank out of the can for an entire semester. Coffee, water, beer, whiskey, anything into ths Spam can. It was horrid to watch.

I have a nice pint glass I keep absolutely sparkling, polished clean especially for good beer. I can't even stand water spots on the thing. I know I probably can't taste how it would change the beer, but I just KNOW it's interfering in some subtle way, and my crazy-assed brain can't take that.

Unfortunately, I'm mildly allergic to hops and barley. Therefore, anything other than "normal crappy" beer upsets my stomach. Fat Tire and Newcastle are as amber as I can get, I can drink Guiness but not Stout, and I abhor any pale ales or IPAs.

'Tis a shame, too, 'cause I had $30 of 'found' money that I blew on a few bottles of different microbrews. By the end of them I was sick as a dog. (They all tasted great, though.)

For my 21st, two of my friends took me out and one of the places we went was the Hofbrauhaus. I didn't like either of the beers I tried (Munich Weizen and Dunkel) and I felt very guilty at the end of our little adventure at this particular restaurant, because I just did not like the beer. The only other beers I've had have been Heineken (bottle and keg), Miller High Life (bottle), Rolling Rock (can and fucking disgusting), Killians (tap) and Guinness (tap). The only beer I've ever found enjoyable were the Guinness (especially) and the Killians and the others were either boring or disgusting.

My point being - Recommend me beers, because so far I've been pretty hopeless at finding things I like!

Eventually I will stop using the extract kits and just use the plastic "keg" it comes with for primary fermentation of real brews, but it's a start.

haha, apparently Anheuser-Busch is suing a local microbrew in my hometown for using the phrase "America's #1 Rated Brewery," an award they won at the Beverage Testing Institute's World Beer Championships. I guess since Budweiser can't claim to be the #1 rated brewery, no one else should be able to? And why do they even care about a regional microbrew that's not really even a concern to such a huge company?

Last night I tried their "Autumnal Fire," a really strong (~10 % ABV or so) doppelbock, it's one of the best beers I've had in a really long time.

Capital Brewery is pretty good. They're not even my favorite local brewery, but that's because they have some very stiff competition. Wisconsin has seriously good microbreweries. I think it's to make up for producing Milwaukee's Best. Spotted Cow is an apology in beer form.

Fuck Anheuser-Busch. What do they brew? Bud? Busch? Fucking NATTY ICE? Any judge involved in the case should just have the jury taste test various samples from both companies.

Too bad most people have shitty taste. Never mind. Bad idea.

I had a Weissbär Weissbier and it was good but kindof light on the flavor and not as strong as it could've been. I should've gone for the Dunkelbier that the restaurant offered, fuck.

I am drinking a Cranberry Lambic right now! I was actually pretty pleased with it, but I generally don't like fruity beers at all, so I didn't expect much. I am a whore for all things cranberry though, so I gave it a try despite my reservations. It's dry and has stronger beer flavor than all the berry brews I've had before, so that's probably why I like it better. I do not care for sweet beer. Ech.

Its the audacity to call it a lambic that bothers me. Compared to even a mass produced lambic like Lindeman's Framboise or Kreik it just falls waaayyyyyyy short. I can't really describe what belgian lambic is like, but I'll give it a try. Framboise is Raspberry, and when you pour it into a glass it has the absolute darkest red color with a beautiful pink foam. When you pull the cork out of the bottle (fermentation continues in a bottle of lambic after bottling, which results in higher pressures than normal beers. Lambic bottles tend to be heavier and have a cork) the smell of raspberry immediately greets you. The first taste is sour, and the carbonation reminds you more of champagne than beer, there is a malt flavor, but raspberry is still the main sensation...I love real lambic. Technically its a beer, but unlike anything else. Try a bottle of Framboise or Kreik sometime, and you'll understand why the Sam Adams Cranberry was dissapointing to me. It doesn't even have the Brettanomyces Lambicus yeast.

The whole notion of "extra cold" and "best served ice-cold" is complete bullshit served up by breweries who can only produce a sub-standard product and P.R. people who are trying to market their beer to ignorant yobbos. When you chill beer too much you completely dull all the flavour that it might have. If you truly want to enjoy your beer, don't drink it ice-cold. If it's an excessively hot day and you want to drink a refreshing beer, there are some styles that are perfectly suited, in particular wheat beer (for super-hot days) and I.P.A.s (for the merely "very hot). Put them in the fridge so they're cool but not "extra cold", pop 'em open, and enjoy.
