I Bought Too Late!
« on: 02 Jan 2008, 23:37 »

Ok, so i have a DS.  Not a DS lite, a standard, grey, chunky DS.  today i went scouring the area looking for a new stylus as the one i was issued went missing, and i only have one spare.  So i head to a few game shops, K mart, Big W, anywhere that sells anything even remotely electronic, and i found out that nowhere, NOWHERE stocks original sized styluses.  at least not in my neck o the woods.  Now i understand that the DS is nearly two years old (or so) and it's been more or less replaced by its smaller, cuter twin, but i mean at the moment i feel if i need another stylus, ill have to buy one of the LITE models, which simply dont fit in the DS, or a Pen stylus for the stupidly high price of like $20.  am i the only one who thinks its a little unfair that a system that is technically (in terms of power, hardware ect) identical to a cash cow gets no support?  i mean im not saying that they need to keep making the system, but it would be nice to be able to get something like a case or a stylus for those of us too poor or stupid to get it earlier.

opinions?

My opinions are that that really sucks, and i know how you feel, as i was in the same boat, and also that it's pretty obvious that places don't typically sell things that make no money for things which there isnt a market for anymore.  I'd contact Nintendo directly though.  I had an original GBA at launch and the screen was really badly scratched.  I called them and asked how much it'd be for a rep lacement and they sent me 2 replacement screen kits and 2 battery hatches for free.

I read somewhere that Nintendo actually discontinued the sale of original DS styluses.  You'll probably have to Ebay for it, and even then you might have to get it second hand or it's going to be a third party manufacturer and it won't look as nice.   :-(

Thank you, LordNagash, for posting the amazon buying page for the DS Styluses (Stylii?)

Hopefully doki sees this in time to snatch up stylus goodness!

I've been screwed by Nintendo like that twice now. I also have a DS, which I bought when it first came out. Now it is literally impossible to go to a store around here and find any products for a DS that are not DS Lite specific.

It's seriously as if they are punishing me for loyally buying their products immediately, rather than waiting for the inevitable upgrade version.

But alas, I love nintendo.

Gamestop (EB Games to some of you) still have a good selection of DS accessories.  I was there last night and picked up a metal DS stylus 2-pack for 5 bucks and could have grabed a DS Starter kit (Carrying case, 3 styluses, game cases and screen protectors) for around $20-25.

Also, if you call Nintendo they have accessories for most of thier systems, if they don't they will look up the nearest stores for you.  Nintendo seriously has one of the best customer services around.

i use a spare double pointed knitting needle or a crochet hook for a stylus. the one it comes with, even the one for the original ds, was too short.

I seem to have had the exact opposite problem. When I bought my DS Lite I also bought an accessory pack with some basic things (screen covers, game cases, extra styluses etc.) and due to my incredible lack of reading skills I didn't realize it for for the original and therefore the screen protectors didn't fit and the car charger would plug into the slot. But I had already torn it open and stuck the protector on so it was too late to return.

When I picked up my GBmicro I found out that it's fucking impossible to pick up a spare charger to use over here in Sweden (bought it in NA). So i ended up eBaying a 3rd party usb-charger cable, that I plug into my iPod charger. Pretty disappointing.
