Indie Bands.

I really don't know anything about the indie genre or subculture and I'm looking for some good music.

I picked up some Broken Social Scene cds after a friend recommended them to me, and I liked them a lot, but I dunno where to look to find anything else.

I listen to a huge variety of genres so really don't hold any suggestions back.

I'd recommend you check out Merzbow, top quality stuff, like BSS but a bit more distorted, really nice stuff though. Really relaxing. Check out 'Merzbear', it's basically exactly like BSS's self titled album.

The Guess Who were pretty indie I think

but the music sucks because the keyboards don't have the cold/mechanical sound they had but a wannabe techno sound that it's pathetic for Rammstein standars.

Why is there not a big flashing neon thread at the top of the forum that says "AN EXPLANATION OF INDIE ROCK AND SOME BANDS YOU MIGHT WANT TO LISTEN TO".  Even though it would undoubtedly be incomplete and limited, at least it would keep these threads from happening so often.

To be fair there's a lot of pages of the Sendspace thread which are fairly specialist genres and so on as opposed to an Indie Rock/Pop 101 course.

Said it before but it really, really couldn't hurt to have a stickied Recommendation thread as on something awful whereby people can make individual posts consisting of 'hey I like (bands) what other (bands) would I like' as opposed to new topics all over the shop. That's just me though.

We did have one. We lost it in the move to SMF.
