it's made a little simpler by the fact that most of the best songs will be on the best albums other wise they wouldn't be the best albums and i should know those albums well enough by now to pick out the good songs

So good.
Album of the year contenders for me, off the top of my head and after midnight: British Sea Power, Do You Like Rock Music?, Bon Iver, For Emma, Forever Ago, and Natacha Atlas, some name I can't remember because it's in Foreign.

Hat:
I can't actually come up with a top ten albums list of 2008 that I am comfortable with because I just keep winding up making "top 10 remixes of 2008" lists instead. Like I wanted to put "In Ghost Colours" in my top 10 albums list but then I thought "man that Midnight Juggernauts remix of Hearts on Fire is fucking great and better than any individual song on that album anyway", and I realised Sample and Hold came out this year and it is not really good form to include remix albums on these lists, but how can I go without mentioning Shit Robots delicious remix of "It's the Beat". And then of course there's the Pogo remixes album and didn't the DVNO single with the LA Riots Remix come out this year?
I will try again later and try harder to not get distracted by dance music, I promise
