Statik:
So I've been browsing local ticket sites and also ticketmaster (as much as I hate them) looking for concerts to plan for over the next few months, when I came across this:

From the ticketmaster site; information on the "Gigantour"... tour...

"Megadeth, the pioneers of the American thrash metal movement, are taking their live show on the road. With over 20 million albums sold, their distinctive guitar solos coupled with Dave Mustaine's unique vocal style is a must-see for any heavy metal concert goer."

Note the first three words.
Now, I'm not a huge Megadeth fan, Im more of a Metallica fan, and no, I don't care about Mustaine getting kicked out of Metallica or any such, I just preferred the sound that Metallica had.
A pioneer?  Sure.  THE pioneer?  No.

Anyway, it irritates me to see shit like this, especially considering the fact that Ticketmaster has sold me every Metallica and Slayer ticket Ive ever bought.

But whatever, Id be going for Children of Bodom, In Flames and High on Fire.  Now to figure out if I want to see those bands over Ministry and Meshuggah, or drive the 3.5+ hours to see them in NYC.

Johnny C:
I think one could argue that Megadeth pioneered it in one direction and Metallica pioneered it in another. Certainly nothing to get too worked up about, especially since the early output of both bands isn't bad.

Vega (the biggest venue in Denmark) once catagorised:

Belle & Sebastian as shoegazer/pop/alt
Low as post-rock
Coheed & Cambria as emo/alt/prog
aaand wait for it
Bullet For My Valentine as grindcore. Yes.

Valrus:
Yeah it seems to me that there are far more valid reasons to hate Ticketmaster.

jimbunny:
You know, that doesn't have to mean they were the only pioneers...

Just like when I say, "Davy Crocket, the frontier man, ..."
