Does that actually happen in the indie scene? Because it happens a hell of a lot in the metal scene.
Anyways, the reason why people prefer bands earlier stuff is because it is better. I will always prefer behemoths grom to the apostasy, and amon amarth's arrival of the fimbulwinter to 'the crusher'. However it doesn't happen with every band.

Heh, I can be pretty elitist (or 'hipster', as you guys call it) when I want. I flat out refuse to listen to some subgenres, for example.

Anyways, as for music you and your boyfriend should listen to; Regardless of what genres/artists you like, you should both listen to aisha jambo.
