It works with other headphones besides the iPod brand.

Pretty much all headphones can work two-way like that.
What DOES suprise me is that the headphone jack is both input and output.

That is actually the reason that people without U.S. Dep't of State ID are never allowed to bring electronics inside the compound.
My laptop is completely fucked, so not only can I not record anything anymore, I can't even finish my album. :(
