--- Quote from: a pack of wolves on 10 Feb 2008, 19:16 ---Milking them to what end? If you've said your band is on hiatus then there's not much reason for you to go the next step and say you've split up. You won't be getting offers of gigs you have to keep turning down or anything like that since you've let it be known you aren't active for the moment. The only benefit to yourself would be to no longer be pestered with questions about whether you were coming back or not, and that balanced against cutting yourself off from the possibility of maybe doing something again probably isn't much of a gain.

I think what I said was that they were being cruel and trying to keep their fans hoping for an end to hiatus. This statement was also not meant. It was supposed to be a joke, of sorts. Damn you, internets, for not letting me communicate the tone of my voice!

There is so much wrong with this sentence than I am not even going to start.

Okay so maybe it is a bit wrong, but I wouldn't say it's completely wrong. It gives absolutely no credit to the jazzy post-rock sound Tortoise created or the psychedelic sound that whatever band created, but they are still a pretty definitive band in my opinion. At least would it be reasonable to say they are the definitive crescendo based post-rock band? And that is a pretty big chunk of post-rock.

De_El:
I was gonna be all snide and post a link to that TWDY thread, but then I saw that you had posted in it numerous times.
...
The thing is, you can't say "it's not completely wrong" about such a sweeping statement. They were influential, yes. But by no means could you defend the claim that they "defined the post-rock genre."

Edit: *facepalm* the difference between "can" and "can't" is fairly important.
