The Fearsome And Mammoth Only Allowable Grand Theft Auto IV Thread
McTaggart:
I really disagree. I always found that the violence was just this painful thing you had to do to get further in the story. I had more fun deliberately not killing people. The combat system and the ai was just too simple for it to actually be fun. I'm really liking hearing that the series is maturing a bit. One game can't really cater for everyone and the company really as to go somewhere with the series so it doesn't stagnate. I'm really enjoying being on the side they seem to be aiming toward for once.
[edit] actually there is one point that I do not like. Girlfriends were bad and I don't want them again if they have a gameplay element at all.
Melodic:
Multiplayer details just announced, and they're big:
* There are 15 multiplayer game modes in GTA IV. PSM had an opportunity to play 7 of them. The rules of each game are determined by the host.
* Multiplayer supports up to 16 players.
* Your online character is fully customizable. You can alter his race, sex, hair, clothing etc.
* The game modes featured are as follows:

PSM Spain has all the first details on GTA IV's multiplayer system.
1. Hangman's NOOSE
2. Car Jack City
3. Bomb da Base
4. Bomb da Base II
5. Mafia Work
6. Team Mafia Work
7. Deathmatch
8. Team Deathmatch
9. Turf War
10. Cops n Crooks
11. Race
12. GTA Race
13. Deal Breaker
14. Free Mode
15. (some other mode?)
* In Race and GTA Race, the host gets to decide which vehicles are involved, and the number of laps to be played. You can shoot and throw molotovs from the window, and even steal your rivals' car.
* In Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch, the host gets to decide whether the police can intervene or not. The host also gets to decide the number of pedestrians, the amount of traffic, and the type of weapons.
* In Cops n Crooks, one team play as cops and the other play as criminals. The cops must stop the criminals from escaping. They can monitor the locations of the criminals on their GPS systems, while the criminals have no idea where the cops are.
* In Mafia Work and Team Mafia Work, you play as one of Kenny Petrovic's mafia henchmen. You must complete hits ordered by the boss (via the cellphone) before your rivals are able to do so.
* A single-player mission called "Hangman's NOOSE" features co-op. You and your friends will be able to escort a mobster, while being pursused by a SWAT team.
* The map used in multiplayer is the same map that is used for single player.
So let's get this straight. 16 multiplayer game modes, 16 players max, and the best part? It all takes place in the single gigantic world that singleplayer takes place in. Woohoo!
Ozymandias:
I've been playing Bully: Scholarship Edition and it's pretty much renewing(or reminding me of) my faith in Rockstar. They know how to make these games and each iteration has been more complex and generally better. I can't wait.
Scandanavian War Machine:
bump because three weeks from today, GTA IV is going to be blowing us all away.
also, i reserved my copy yesterday and i am hell of excited.
the only downside is that now that i have my copy reserved, i have a deadline for the other games i've been putting off. i now have three weeks to finish Lost Odyssey, Culdcept Saga, and "Bring Down The Sky" for Mass Effect. none of these tasks are very daunting by themselves but the fact that there are three of them, and i don't want to do any of them because i can't stop playing CoD4 makes it kind of intimidating/annoying.
Dimmukane:
Yeah, I know what you mean. Especially because of the new maps. And homework. I've got another half-hour or so in Brawl, and 2/3rds of Crysis and a lot of Morrowind left. In addition, Mario Kart is coming out soon after, and Too Human, and I need to play more Civ 4.
