It's a fine album. I only got it a few days ago (my local record store proprietor usually sneaks things out a day or two early to get the jump on the big chain stores) and, as with all Darnielle's work, it's going to take many listens to fully absorb it. First impressions are that it's a step up from Get Lonely which, though beautiful, was a bit one-note. It's interesting to hear Darnielle going back to story-telling after the more confessional songs of the last few albums. If anything, Heretic Pride seems like a continuation of the work he did on the Babylon Springs E.P. (which people outside Australia might not have, as it was originally released as a tie-in to his tour here a couple of years ago).
