Ladies and Gentlemen: Gambit!
« on: 19 Feb 2008, 16:00 »

So according to the Interweb Taylor Kitsch  has been cast as Gambit in the forthcoming Wolverine movie. Apparently he is in the TV show "Friday Night Lights", so maybe those of you in North America can tell those of us in ROTW if this piece of casting is inspired or inspid?

Kitsch has apparently signed a three picture deal, which would suggest that Gambit, will play a major role, but could mean that Fox is merely hedging its bets.

Have to say I've always loved the character and each time an x-men film was announced I hoped he'd be included, I can't wait to see him and his explosive playing cards on screen.

Also Aintitcool is saying that Ryan Reynolds will make an appearance as Deadpool. I know this has been a rumour for a while but they are saying it's true, but again, that is coming from AICN!

I have never really been all that big with Hugh Jackman being Wovlerine, but I am really behind Ryan Reynolds playing Deadpool.

Hell, it was pretty much who his character King was in Blade: Trinity

A bland actor for a bland character. How appropriate.

Seriously, fuck Gambit. What this franchise needs is Maggott.

Reynolds has been lobbying for the Deadpool role for a while. I think he's fairly funny and like Deadpool so I hope that's true.

This Wolverine movie, is it in the film universe or the comic universe. I'm pretty sure they're two different Earths.

I don't know, the situation may have changed now that Marvel has flown the nest, so to speak (fucking over Sam Raimi is just a part of growing up) I know they're planning on emphasizing that all the movies from Iron Man on are in the same universe. Robert Downey Jr. has a cameo in the nu Hulk movie, etc.

Even though I am not a massive Ryan Reynolds fan in general I am basically 100 percent behind his push to play Deadpool, being that it is the only chance in hell Deadpool will ever have to be portrayed in a major hollywood movie. And he is kind of a mouthy jerk in most of his movies, so just strap a few guns on him, and he's good to go. Also it is awesome that he is a fan of the character.

Anyway, the news of a Wolverine movie is slightly odd to me, just because its essentially what X-3 was anyway. Still, at least they're being honest about it now.

Not a bad choice. Dude does not naturally have the grizzled-cajun look about him, but sufficient makeup and maybe a mechanism to vent pheromones into the theaters will nail the character's animal magnetism just fine.

On the topic of Ryan Reynolds: fuck Ryan Reynolds.

Have you not seen the X-Men cartoon show!?

Have you not read the X-Men comic book?

Man, I've read the comics for sixteen years, watched both cartoons through their entirety and played just about every video game related. Suffice to say, I am a solid X-Men fan. Gambit has to be one of the worst characters the franchise has ever seen. He was originally supposed to be a double agent sent by Sinister, but then people responded well to him so editorial nixed it and made him a walking cliche. Bland fucking character.

i'm not the biggest fan of gambit, but i like any new character cameo (the more the merrier), love any comic book movie for that matter... even the bad ones... i somehow feel obligated to like em just to show the nerd support, even when they screw up the film translation of a comic.

i like hugh jackman for the most part but i woulda liked a more true to comic wolverine... shorter and scruffier, but short and scruffy wouldn't sell tickets outside the fanboy market so i understand why he's wolverine. when i turn off the fanboy in me, i buy it.

as for ryan reynolds, i am not a fan... not to say that i hate everything he's in he wasn't that bad in smoking aces, his first non-quipy role and the nines what kinda wierdly cool, but left a kind of "huh?" i just don't like his lack of range in his films, typical good looking witty dude who never loses... but deadpool is kinda arrogant and witty but definately not good looking... maybe i might like him more if his face is all messed up with the legacy virus, we'll see if they get the make-up right.
either way i'm excited for anything related to the marriage of comics and film. i'll be there opening weekend

F.Y.I., it was Maverick who got messed up from the Legacy Virus, not Deadpool. Deadpool's scarring and hideousness was the result of Weapon X experimentations with trying to reproduce Wolverine's healing factor mixed with skin cancer that Deadpool had developed before entering the program. The experiments left him with a healing factor possibly stronger than Wolverine's, but he was left hideously and permanently scarred and criminally insane.

There's a theory that the man in X3 with the regenerating arms was Deadpool. Y'know, the one who had to be kicked in the nuts to be put down.

I've never seen Will.I.Am sing or act so I can't really judge that bit of casting.

Granted I have never seen Will.I.Am act either, however I am as likely to want to see a film staring a man named "Will.I.Am" as one directed by a man named "McG"

It might work, Wraith, known as Kestrel I guess, seems pretty bad ass

kind of hoping they meant the one from Annihilation Conquest, but that wouldn't make sense.  Then again it is a movie about Wolverine so sense is pretty much thrown out the window at the first intro.

That's the wrong Wraith. The Wraith they're referring to, John Wraith, was a member of Team X. Team X was a group consisting of Wolverine, Sabretooth, Maverick and Silver Fox. Honestly, he's relatively obscure, he only had maybe a dozen or so appearances ever and that was back in the early nineties.
