there is SOOOOOOOOO MUCH better political punk out there
greenday is mtv political punk
all their politics is ill researched and always follows the current mainstream mtv trend of politics
watch some cspan greenday!
no seriously, fuck this greenday thread
greenday shames a glorious potentially world impacting genre and now "punk" is turning
into a barrel of shit because kids all over the world when they think punk are thinkin
ofgreenday instead of brilliant punk philosophers like joe strummer, jello biafra, patti smith,
dylan, mc5, and so much more
but no, its "bullet in a bible" and the very very very typical "bush = suxx0rz" crap
Green Day was never political punk. They're still not political punk. The have previously written songs about personal politics, but the message 'BUSH SUCKS' hasn't been present on any album cuts. There was a song recorded for a compilation, but that song is so vague that you couldn't really call them out on it if it not for the title of the compilation it appeared on.
American Idiot wasn't a 'political' album in the sense of the word that you seem to be familiar with. I have trouble taking your post here seriously because every line sounds ridiculously absurd. American Idiot was an album about being American, and an idiot, with some angst thrown in for good measure. Some political statements appear on the album because that's the context. There was a war going on at the time, so of course that is going to be mentioned. But first and foremost, it's a concept album about being an american living in the suburbs. I don't particularly like the album, but even at a cursory glance of the lyrics online, that much is obvious. Saying that they have "ill informed politics" when all they do is state some facts is pretty weird.
Now, as for that claim about "punk" being a "potentially world impacting genre"...
The examples you listed were never really a part of that genre.
Claiming that band that isn't punk is destroying the credibility of punk music is completely insane. Punk is and always has been about subversive activity. Green Day releasing albums isn't going to make bands that are genuinely about making waves any less credible. They likely don't even
sound like Green Day.
The best punk bands have resolve. The only way they're going to lose credibility is if they lose their resolve. Green Day releasing American Idiot hasn't made people respect genuine punks any less because they're from two separate worlds. The existence of American Idiot didn't suddenly make ex-Fugazi members come out, eat meat and stamp their faces on Nike ads. Green Day are not "shaming punk bands everywhere" any more than you are.
Claiming that Green Day suck because they don't have the punk ethic is ridiculous, because that's never what they were about. If you're going to hate on a band, hate on them for a legitimate reason. Dislike them because you find the music boring, Dislike them because you can't stand their front man, dislike them because they're unoriginal and other acts have done the same thing much better. Don't try to makeup some bullshit excuse for your hate.
Upon reviewing your post for the third time, I think you were joking. But I'm gonna go ahead and post this anyway, because whether you were joking or not, it's relevant.
