No, it's not just you. They've been boring and redundant for an incredibly long time. In fact it's somewhat refreshing to see people realizing this, like I discovered a way to actually communicate with God and people are slowly understanding.

Yes, it's just you. The Mars Volta is every other person's favourite band. Every single one. All 6 billion of them. Just can't get enough The Mars Volta.
A Wet Helmet:
I use that album for white noise when I'm doing technical writing for work. It's absolutely perfect for it. When I just need something in the room besides the sound of the keyboard clicking that I don't really want to think about or pay more attention to than what I'm doing.
As far as listenable music goes, At the Drive-In was exponentially better, in my opinion.
