Every time I hear this species name I can't help but think, "lol, bearded clam" and then I go cry.

I dunno, I have a pair of their non-combat boot boots, for when wearing combat boots isn't appropriate. They aren't better than the others, really, they are horribly uncomfortable without new insoles, worse than my usual boots were.

My boots would have been $200, but I got them half off because they were surplus. You can get current-issue boots for less than that at a surplus store, rated for extreme temperatures, but they don't have the zippers, and I like not having to lace and tie the shoes every time.

Magnum makes a pair of current issue boots with a zipper for around $80, and kudos for not paying full price.

Lunchbox:
I put my faith in Doc Martens because the last pair I bought (In 2002, as an impressionable semi-goth youth, with my first paycheck) lasted six years of me wearing (and beating the shit out of) them for five to seven days a week, every week. They are still extremely comfortable and the leather is lovely but the soles are completely worn out and there is a big split in one. I could have had them resoled but I am a lady who likes shoes and buying new things.

Also I purchased cherry red 10-holes, originally hand-made in England in 2001 (and Quality Control checked by Sue, they proudly proclaim), which are quite a bit more expensive than the basic black 8-hole boot.

Please remember as well that I am Australian, and our money is supposedly worthless.

David_Dovey:
Lunchy, pay attention to your finance news!

It is their money that is worthless now!

I bought a Trenchcoat/peacoat dealie (it says it's a trenchcoat on the label but it only comes down to just below my waist) for $120 the other. That's maybe the most I've ever spent on a single item of clothing that wasn't a suit.
