Guitar Feedback.

Caspian:
It seems that a few people (myself included) were disappointed that the other feedback thread wasn't actually about guitar feedback.

So with this in mind, I have decided to create a topic about guitar feedback. This is that topic.

Basically, I like feedback a great deal. You have the feedback/sustain deal that a lot of drone has (The last seven minutes of Sunn O)))'s 'Hell-O)))-Ween') being a prime example. This is probably my favourite kind of feedback, as it basically just extends the note for ages without adding any harmonies, it's great stuff.

I'm a fan of most other sorts of feedback, too, and even the oft-maligned 'really really high pitched screechy feedback' sounds good in various noise, industrial and metal bands. It's not a lot of fun in real life, though. Obviously the typical, 'high pitched harmonic' feeding back thing sounds terrific too, especcially when you know your guitar and amp well enough to be able to get exactly the sort of sustained tones that you want.

So. Feedback is really good? Discuss feedback here, songs with good feedback in them, and how you fare with producing feedback on your own guitar/bass/violin/piano (If someone has made a piano feedback I will be VERY impressed)/xylophone/saxophone.

mixer feedback ftw!

I'm also a big fan of bass feedback... if you've got a nice amp it can really make you queasy!

Christophe:
The distortion pedals I use for my amplifier are a Behringer VT999 tube monster and a Boss OS/2 Overdrive/Distortion. Used in conjunction, I can get some pretty rad, controllable feedback with it. One of the tricks that I discovered a few months ago was to put my guitar's pickups near the soundhole of my acoustic guitar, turning my feedback into a hollow-sounding "whoooooo" feedback.

This is probably a contributing factor to my faint yet now-noticeable tinnitus...

jeph:
My absolute favorite feedback is when you find the sweet spot in front of a cranked amplifier and every note you sustain decays into feedback on the fundamental and/or harmonics of that note. Suddenly a four-note solo turns into this huge, aching , crushing melody.

Pity you can only pull this off if ur rig iz at 11s.

Beastmouth:
Feedback is 100% better if you're doing it w/ amp Vibrato and a phaser

plus being drunk helps
