Ska and why even ska-kids hate ska
« on: 12 Mar 2008, 04:47 »

Sarcasm initiated:

There are only 5 ska bands in the world.

I always thought LTJ was a really weak ska band... at least their Hello Rockview album. Losing Streak wasnt bad.

Catch 22, Streetlight Manifesto, The Specials, Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Reel Big Fish are good ska bands. Aquabats are good too but very silly and a lot of people dont like them because of it. Five Iron Frenzy is also very good :)

Ska can be excellent when done correctly!  My favorites are Streetlight Manifesto, Catch-22, Common Rider, and Mighty Mighty Bosstones.

I am a big fan of The Aquabats, Reel Big Fish, Save Ferris, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, and select Catch 22.

SKA IS NOT DEAD TO ME YET!

i like some ska, but mostly because it is fun to listen/dance to.  I've been to one of Reel Big Fish's shows and plan on going to see them again in August.  I also like the Aquabats and some older Catch 22 eh.

Also, Catch-22 and Streetlight Manifesto are easily some of my favorite bands.  The Mighty Mighty Bosstones are some excellent ska too.

i have been into ska for quite some time now and i just about love every ska band out there. yea and all the other bands that people have mentioned are awesome too. the Aquabats, Streetlight Manifesto, Catch 22

Aquabaaaaaaats!

I like the Aquabats

Whee ska!

I dabble in the genre, but the only bands i really follow and buy their cds are reel big fish, the slackers, the aquabats, sublime, catch 22 (although i only own keasbey nights and have heard bad things about them since), and streetlight manifesto.

Said the kid with the Less Than Jake tattoo. D:

What about the Skatalites, they invented the genre. They may not fall in with the modern style of ska but they are still an amazing band to listen to and see live.

Long ago I came up with the name "Skary Monsters", it would be a ska tribute to 70s david bowie.
That night I cut myself from the sheer horror.

There is a local ska group of some renown here. Instead of going the obvious route and naming themselves "SaSKAtchewan" or "SKASKAtchewan" or something like that, they went with "Skavenjah."

"Skavenjah."

I've always thought Skapple Pie or the Skellacopters would be fun.  Though, I kind of already vowed to myself that my next band, regardless of genre, will be called Eli Whitney and the Sound Machine.

Out of all the third wave NYC ska bands with tattoo artist keyboard players,  Asian French horn players, that used mercenary bass players, they were the best. Shit... They were so good I saw them on two continents and let at least one of them crash on my futon.

Meph was awesome.  I'm not kidding about a) seeing them on two continents (Saw them headline in Germany, saw them open for Fishbone in Hawaii) or b) letting Brian (the keyboard player) crash on my futon.

Damn those were good times.
