Lummer: Clutch? I don't really see them being as appropriate for summer as Born to Run, but they fit the fuzzy stoner rock.

The White EP by Agalloch has some summery parts, and I am not saying that merely due to the constant references to Summerisle.

I pulled out Last Splash by the Breeders today and I thought it was probably the perfect summer album. ALSO: Run DMC's Raising Hell was pretty much the soundtrack to my entire last summer.

I'd say it's a fall album, if anything.  But I think summer and fall albums could have a large overlap.

I don't have that one, but Odelay! is definitely a summer album, in my opinion.  "Hotwax" makes me think of rolling around with friends and getting into all sorts of shenanigans.

BSS anyone  :roll: (I'd second the notion that the s/t-album is a little more summer-like than You forgot it...).

Then the Talking Heads --> I'd prefer their live-output (esp. disc two of the reissued "The name of the band is Talking Heads")

Malajube "Trompe l'oeil" is one of my summer-favourites, as is "EP" by the Fiery Furnaces. They were joined last year by Apostle of Hustle's "National anthem of nowhere" and will be most probably this year by Los Campesino's "Hold on now, youngster", while "Moon Safari" by Air is still tops for a summer-evening-chill-out.

All of those bands fucking rock regardless, but it gets that much better, which is why I consider them good albums to light up to.  Especially Leech and Moccassin.  Me and my friends will be stoned out of our asses, playing video games, with the music on shuffle.  Leech will come on, and everyone stops shooting and just goes "HOLY SHIT!" and shivers go up my spine.

We have also concluded that The Stolen View was meant to be the soundtrack for any post-apocalyptic zombie movie ever.

On the subject of lighting up albums:

Soulwax - Most of the Remixes

The standing list on this thread needs more Kyuss and Colour Haze.

Actually this thread has needed Kyuss from the beginning.  Kyuss make the sound of a 100-foot bass amp made out of stone in the middle of the desert at sunset.  I think someone mentioned QOTSA, they're pretty good at being awesome summer music ... Kyuss is why.

Summer is about the only time I can listen to stuff like The Beatles or The Kinks...most of the time, I listen to winter music. Summer kind of grates against most of my music collection...
But then, it's also a good excuse to dig out old Lovin' Spoonful best ofs...

Anyway - Pet Sounds is an awesome summer album. It gets a tad alternative towards the end, but aside from that it's sun-soaked pop masterpieces all the way.
