In other news that should have them rending their garments at Comic-Con: Paramount Pictures released the first-ever photos from its upcoming G.I. Joe project, which continues to push forward with production in clear defiance of our wishes. Some folks have given us flak for our premature evaluations, hopeful that the film will be something more than a cheap cash-in rendered with the same style-over-substance disposability that has turned the modern action blockbuster into such a grating experience. Allow me to direct these doe-eyed optimists to this quote from director Stephen Sommers (lest we forget, the man responsible for Van Helsing) about Ray Park’s character Snake Eyes: “He's the world's greatest ninja, but he's also next-generation. He's not afraid to use a sword one second, and a split-second later he's pulling out his Glock.” Awesome! Does he also “enjoy listening to gangsta hip-hop” and “partying to the extreme”?

I never watched it or played with the toys (my mum didn't let us play with anything remotely related to violence; shit she didn't even like it when Cookie Monster would go nuts and tear apart the set and start eating it!) but I'll probably see this anyway. Just because Ray Park is the shit.

LAME, they went with the Venom vs Valor Snake Eyes and Arashikage Clan tattoo. Destro is also the lead villian instead of Cobra COmmander which is lamer.

I grew up watching G.I. Joe? (I'm 18)  I thought it was made in the late 80's?

Last I checked, 18 still counted as "late teen" but I could be mistaken.

Hmm, never did watch G.I.Joe an awful lot as a child, anyone watch those G.I.Joe videos that were a massive piss-take and had a lot of adult humour, like, stop motion animated with the toys...
I can't remember the name of it. But it was hilarious...

I never watched G.I. Joe nor did I ever own, play with or want one of the toys. I might not be the target audience for this film. In fact, I'm weirded out that they are even doing this. Hopefully they'll be coming out with a He-Man and the Masters of the Universe film at some point (the old one with Dolph Lundgren is fucking awesome).

Nah, the most memorable part was that it was impossible for someone (except Snake Eyes) to initiate an attack without either yelling "Cobra!" or "Yo Joe!"

People got shot and hurt on occasion.  It usually occurred when riding some impractical flying vehicle with no armor or attempting a stealth attack with the loudest vehicle known to man.

Snakes Eyes got radiation poisoning one time, and who knows how many of Cobra's men died when the bases exploded.
