I hope I'm not too late.

It would probably behoove you to go to the "Hi, I'm New" forum so that other people won't keep reminding you that starting a thread as your first post somewhere else is  :x ed upon.

Also, why would anyone want anything besides a Vox amp... Ever?

I honestly don't see any problem with a first post being a amp related one. All good, in my opinion!

I've never used any guitar amps from b52, but we use the PA-215s they make. They've got a good sound, and are pretty reliable, so I'm guessing their amps would be similar. As always though, heading down to a shop and having a play around is generally the best idea for something like this.

So I take it a Vox Valvetronix would be a good idea for me to buy?

Sorry, not trying to derail the thread.

I guess.  They're pretty okay, for solid states.  I'm just not a fan of modeling amps.  Which model in particular are you planning on buying?

Good god yes get a Tiny Terror.  MY friend just got one and he's playing it through a Blackheart 1x12 and JESUS ITS SO GREAT.

I personally love my Traynor TS-50, though its definitely an acquired taste.  Most people think I'm pretty weird when they find out I play a Lilac Danelectro U-1 through a beat up Traynor TS-50, and I willingly chose those over other options.

This shop near me has a real nice Bassman and a Twin Reverb, but like i said, low money.
I'm now leaning toward the B-52 Rectifier.
I saw some tests with it, the clean is real nice which is where most of it counts for me.

My boss used to have an old Traynor Bassmaster
It was damn good
And i must say I like your set up.
When people see a beat up amp they assume it's shit.

I wholeheartedly recommend the Tiny Terror, but hey now, there is nothing wrong with a Valvetronix. My AD15VT has served me quite well. A plus? Such a small thing, but such a huge sound, UHGBLUHGUHBLUH.

you know i was gonna get one of these but i got my windsor instead. i've seen all kinds of videos of them on youtube and stuff, they're like the "poor man's mesa boogie". they're good amps for what they are and their price tag. i read some reviews though and people are complaining about them just randomly not working after a couple months or something, IDK.Also, the gator music up here by me has orange amps. also hiwatt, so if you wanna play a tiny terror, there's been one sitting there for months.  btw GUESS WHO LOL.

Tube watts go a long way.  Vox AC15s are hella loud for being a fifteen watt 1x12.  The also get this sick overdrive sound when you turn the top boost up.

The best part?  They are only five hundred dollars.

Dude the Big Muff is disappointingly non versatile. It does one thing great but that's fuckin' all it does.

Tube overdrive, however, is amazing on many levels.

Oh my god, you're doing it so wrong. Man I love my RAT and that comment makes me want to kill myself.

The predecessor of the distortion pedal, the overdrive, was designed to re-create the sound of an overdriven tube amp. The fuzz's history is quite similar, only it re-creates the sound of a dying tube amp.

Distortion is a middle ground I guess. But it can never replace or outdo authentic overdriven tubes.

Of course there's tube-driven distortion pedals but that's a whole 'nother topic.

Relating to the original post...

B-52s are relatively so-so amps in my opinion. The last tour I was on, my AC15 died so I used this other band's B-52 100 watt...

Pros...
- can be louder than anything ever
- 2 channel footswitch was awesome

Cons...

- very solid-statey...if you like the sound of tubes..this ain't it
- eardrum piercing treble, which results in a real scratchy sound and horrible screaming highs that kill people
- rolling off on the eq fixed this, but resulted in mud...tone death, unless you like that sort of thing

There's another amp...the marshall mg100 is the same price and I think it's much better all around. it also has a tube emulation circuit...to get a faux tube sound..take a look at that one.

Um, yeah, B-52s are metal amps. That is what they are supposed to sound like.

Recommending an MG100 is never a good move. Ever.

goddammit... didn't know MGs were the antichrist over here, calm the fuck down.
I just think they're better than the comparably shitty b-52s.
They both are pretty terrible if you ask me.

If you want my honest opinion, get a 2x12 of some sort (there's a decent and cheap fender 2X12 out there) if you want to spend less yet still get something better.

Well, I've only really had experience with Fender tube amps and that one Vox amp, there.  And Line 6 amps, but they are not worth mentioning.

Fender Hot Rod Deluxe amps (I have the slightly larger DeVille 410) have a very nice, rich clean tone and overdrive nicely with a stompbox, but the actual overdrive on the amps leave something to be desired.  They are also super-loud.

You could also look at Peavey amps.  I mean, they're pretty reputable.  I was looking at getting this for a while, but I couldn't play test it before I bought it, so I opted for something I could try beforehand.  This one also appears to be 120 watts.

Also, take a listen to some of the other musicians on here.  I am kind of a newb about guitar stuff.

nah man I was mainly telling the other folks who furiously shat upon the fact that I mentioned the MG to chill, no worries.

imapirate suggested this before me,

but..something else I would recommend would be the Peavey Windsor.

During a recording session, I used a Windsor that the studio owned and quite liked it. It had a very balanced sound.

I use a Vox 2x12 currently, and it's perfect for me...a bit pricier though. Most people like Vox when it comes to tubes.
