Could you be a bit more vague, please?  I like to start with little to no information.  Some lyrics could help a lot.

I'm going to take a wild stab in the dark and say "The Trapeze Swinger?"

It's a cover of 'My Sharona', originally by The Knack.

Could you name this post-rock song I heard the other day for me? It starts off really quiet but it slowly builds up into this wildly crazy crescendo at the end.

Thanks!

What?! A post rock song with a quiet beginning that builds up to something wild and crazy at the end?
It couldn't be!

Oh hey, while you're at it, can anyone name the rap song where the guy keeps going on about how good he is? And that Zappa song with all the non sequiturs?

I think from here on the thread is going to only continue to spear drastically away from the OP. (yes, I realise I wasn't helping)

If you REALLY want to find the song, I think most of their (his) stuff is in the mediaf!re thread.

If it has quite a low-fi sound, it's probably on "The Creek Drank the Cradle".*
If it sounds a bit more polished but only has maybe one or two instruments (mainly acoustic guitar), try "Our Endless Numbered Days".* (Just thought of something - are any drums used on this album?!?)
For stuff with more instruments incl. electric guitar, try the more recent "Shepheard's Dog" LP, or "Woman King" EP.*

(* possibly over-generalising here, but it might help - anyone else?)

Slint is overrated.  "Washer" and "Good Morning Captain" are notable exceptions in an otherwise reasonably bland catalogue of songs.  I wish people would stop confusing innovative with good.

Mogwai, on the other hand, get better every album (the Zidane soundtrack being the exception to that axiom).

Bashing rap as a genre is played out.  There is so much good rap out there, yet for some inexplicable reason people think that Top 40 rap is the only rap that exists.  That's tantamount to assuming that rock music sucks because you heard a Nickelback song once.

I'd say if it has a long outro then it's likely to be one of his more recent songs, probably something off the Shepherd's Dog.

The song with the longest intro on Sheperd's Dog is 'Wolves (Song Of The Sheperd's Dog), I think. The outro is about 2 minutes. The other song's outro's are all a lot shorter, so you could maybe try this one out to see if it is what your looking for I guess. ;)

Hey. I said some of its good. "For What You Though Hops" by The Typical Cats, for instance. Rap can be amazing, and yet, the widespread consensus says that the rap seeping the radio now a days is of a certain 'bitches and ho's' styles thats absolutely dreadful.
I'm sure thats pretty sure to say.

Right, but pretty much all rock and country music on the radio sucks, too.  Why single out rap as having "some good stuff"?  That makes it sound like there are like ten good rap acts in the entire world, when the truth is that by sheer numbers for every one Top 40 shitty 50 Cent rapper I can name like ten good underground rap acts and it's not even a genre I explore very much.

Same with rock.  Is popular rock music shit?  Yes, but there are more good underground rock bands than there are popular shitty ones.  So it would be more accurate to say "Rock/rap is pretty good, but some of it is total shit" rather than the other way around.

Especially on a local level!  I am having trouble thinking of more than a few shitty local rap or rock acts (other than bands of highschool punk kids) but I could name 40 or 50 local rap and rock acts that are incredible.

(Note for the comprehension impaired, by "rock" I mean ALL rock-based music, be it post-, indie-, noise-, garage-, psyche-, or whatever.)
