Make your debut album
« on: 31 May 2008, 20:15 »

Not sure if this goes here or not, seeing how it kind of relates to music.

Anyway, I Stumbled on the following thread and thought it was a decent idea. Anyone want to give it a shot?

" Your Debut Album

1 - Go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first random Wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.

2 - Go to Random quotations: http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.

If you want to do this again, you'll hit refresh to generate new quotes, because clicking the quotes link again will just give you the same quotes over and over again.

3 - Go to flickr's "explore the last seven days" http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days/
Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

Put it all together, that's your debut album."

I hope I am not the only one that found that squirrel image hilarious. I imagine that one of them is trying to throw the other off the tree, but it looks like they are humping while climbing, which makes no sense at all.

David Graveney: That plays the devil

Not sure what that would be, the image seems like it would be a nature-based or irony-loving artist (like whatever band that was that had an eagle, a wolf, and some big cat on the cover, there was a thread about them that turned into fapping about mogwai), but can't figure out anything beyond that.

Quebec Route 273: You obtain a master

Maybe some sort of Canadian surf rock?

Wasn't the thread about masturbating to Mogwai about MCR? Or was that just the immediate topic?

Anyways, this is a thread I will probably never want to see again and will keep on popping up in my "new replies" page, so I might as well contribute.

Boudoir- Till They Are Seasoned

Actually, that sounds like a really awesome band/album.

The first one I tried to post wouldn't work either. It's on Flickr's end. If you try to "View Image" on it, it brings you a blank page. It only does this on some though.

Puracé - Combine In Real Love

Baroque style fusion of Arcade Fire circa Neon Bible, Spoon circa Gimme Fiction with the addition of Lightburn's passion for Jazz and Morissey. Gothic tension and romance the likes of which Ann Radcliffe herself would aspire to craft, set in a claustrophobic 1940's inner city Berlin.
I would love it if such an album ever came into exist, I'd name my daughter Puracé and play this album for all eternity.

I think The Nelson Report looks like a European band that's heavily influenced by West Coast American rock from the '60s and '70s. Maybe a touch bland but rather pleasant for a sunny day and some cocktails.

False Hellebore - Is The Concrete Cloverleaf

I rather imagine it sounding like Coil, but maybe more rock orientated.

Naka River come across as an even mix of the Boredoms, Melvins and Warhorse. Utilising crushing riffs but with a playful sensibility they disregard vocals in favour of saxophone player Bernard Robbins, who weaves elegant melodies into the twisting songs on Cigar We Willingly Smoke.

Ocean and Coastal Law Journal have previously been noted for their intelligent, folk-tinged pop but on Choice to Take Action a more political edge comes into their lyrics as well a lusher instrumentation as they bring in cellos, violins, piano and even French horn to fill out their sound. The end result is something akin to The Divine Comedy and Belle And Sebastian collaborating with Phil Ochs and it works surprisingly well.

Ambient duo "Welling, Alberta" are in the final stages of recording their debut album "Reason Shines but Dimly." Imagine a noisier "Stars of the Lid" with definite influences by Antarcticans and post-"we Move Through Weather" Tarentel, making the album shimmer with a hazy swirl of strings, guitars, piano and brass but with a menacing, noisy undertone of static and propulsive percussives which rears its head or lurks under the surface behind a veil of misleading calm. It's music for a placid nightmare until the final song when it devolves completely into a hellish storm of distortion and percussion. Here's the cover in full (there's no text):

Welling, Alberta - Reason Shines but Dimly

37th Training Wing - At Two With Nature

A meditation on humanity's separation from the natural world and the dual approach to our surroundings it can create within us, 37th Training Wing's abusive guitars and thudding, ritualistic drums create dense, sinister backings for the shrieks of a man who sounds like David Yow in pain. Imagine The Jesus Lizard performing a pagan ceremony in a futuristic dystopian Tokyo.

Groeslon- "Living, It's Still Popular"

A folky, carefree summer-esque concept album about seaside diners and eateries. The sound is essentially a toned-down Pet Sounds-era Beach Boys with electronic elements lifted from Boards of Canada's "Music Has The Right To Children". 7.5 on Pitchfork.

Colophon Cassoni- "Sleep With The Earth"

An ambitious album, both starkly minimalist and yet at the same time touched with flecks of grandeur, Colophon Cassoni's debut "Sleep With The Earth" is both a hodgepodge of different world music traditions (Brazillian Jazz, Flamenco, Russian Folk) mixed with sweeping post-rock soundscapes -- and a surprisingly cohesive album. Imagine Bedhead with a maxed-out passport and you have Colophon Cassoni.
