Holy Hell! Someone loves that record as much as me! My favorite hip-hop albums of all time, no doubt. Nothing makes me feel more relaxed and happy, especially the song "Making Planets", where there's a wash of noise and Mr Lif's verse comes in out of nowhere. Mystifying.

Speaking of similar stuff, check out the Stones Throw label, specifically starting with Charizma & Peanut Butter Wolf's LP, "Big Shots". PBW started the label and re-released this gem from 1993, which was I think forgotten after Charizma got killed in a mugging. Anyways, its just like Beauty and the Beat for me, for this reason: respect to the heroes. Just as Edan pays dues to his predecessors so well in the song "Fumbling over Words that Rhyme" (and "Rock and Roll"), Charizma sounds like and was a dude obsessed with Tribe Called Quest, Eric B & Rakim, Run DMC etc and his love for rhyming shines through. Best songs: Red Light Green Light, Methods, Ice Cream Truck.  Like Edan, he just sounds like a really awesome, sincere artist, something that can be rare in modern hip hop.

Anyone who guests on Beauty & the Beat is worth checking out. Especially Percee P. His style is unprecedented for me. Get his LP "Perseverance", real old school. Song: "Throwback Rap Attack"
What the fuck happened to Edan artistically? When's his next LP gonna drop?? I desperately need his first one, and his mixtapes etc.

Cool Topic.  :-)

Going with the Stones Throw recommendation, my two favorite hip-hop artists are on it: Mf Doom and Madlib. Both of these guys and their various alias's (MF Doom= Viktor Vaughn, King Geedorah and Madlib = Quasimoto, Sound Directions) make excellent music. Definitely check out Madvillain, who is MF Doom and Madlib together.

Definitely Madvillain, weirdest sampling ever (Zappa's "Sleeping in a Jar", Sun Ra etc.) Genius.

Maybe even better: JayLib - the legendary Jay Dee and Madlib together. Amazing producers but they can hold their own rapping as well. Good sampling: Jaco Pastorius' "Opus Pocus" on the song "Strip Club". Jay's "Donuts" is a sick album too - 32 instrumental tracks.

Awesome label.

I actually don't have that one.  :-( (This is not an upload request - or is it??)  :-)

Awesome old-school stuff: Ultramagnetic MCs - Critical Beatdown

Basically a "classic" of the genre that everyone should have and love. Edan I think did a whole song paying tribute to the band on his first album. The style is I think brilliant; basically, Kool Keith and Ced-gee spend the whole album saying how good they are. But, it's in the way they do it... some really weird lines that come out of nowhere, and bizarre trains of thought that link the verses. And of coarse the sampling is note-worthy. Get it

Best song: "Aint it good to ya"
