QC Readers vs. Nature

ITT, please post pictures of yourself interacting with the other representatives of Kingdom Animalia.

No that giraffe is not off in the distance, it really is that small!  (May 2008)

The Snow Leopard and I became fast friends when we both agreed that meat is awesomely delicious and that he was truly indeed a kick ass cat.

Old picture (1968 - age 21) and even older picture (1958 - age 11):

I was off school for a year with TB when I was 13, and so my family had to find things for me to do - travelling the canals of England (Wales in this case, as it's the Llangollen canal) in this little boat my mother made was one of them:

This is Wedge, the turtle. He has been alive for almost three years now! I bought him while I was an exchange student in Japan, so he's still there with a friend of mine. His bigger and stronger brother Biggs died recently, which is sad.

That's me driving up to this road. I'd also post a picture with me and a bear, but I can never get outside quick enough to be right next to thems. Here's a bear across the alley from where I live, at least...

Edited to actually fit the thread because I don't know how to read.

Not an animal - but an old Leica is part of Nature, I reckon - possibly the nicest object I've ever owned.

Oh jeez, these pics are soooo old. Like nearly three years old --I took them for my senior portraits. The next time I go back home, I'll have to take my digital camera and take some new ones with the baby cows!! (They are so damn cute!) --And the FOUR ORANGE KITTENS that were born a month or so ago (my family is notorious for having black, grey, and calico cats. We had 1 orange one that I got from a friend, and we found a stray in town, so we brought her home and she had four orange kitties, 1 black one, and a calico...aaaaanyway...)

It has to be one of the few non-venomous snakes in Australia. This country's wildlife is fucking evil.

It's not that bad here though to quote a fellow Australian; "As long as you knock your shoes out every morning, and don't go poking in holes in the ground, and wear long pants with thick socks and heavy boots, and don't swim north of the Tropic of Capricorn in the wet season, and don't swim at all in the Northern Territory, and keep a forked stick handy, and an antivenine kit, and stay within a 10 minute helicopter flight of a hospital, you're perfectly safe. Most of the time."

It's not just the bugs and reptiles that get you. Even 'harmless' animals such as the Koala and the Platypus can attack and seriously injure people. Hell, the Platypus is poisonous.

And don't even get me started on Drop Bears...

our most venomous snake cant kill anything bigger than a bunny, our most venomous spider has the same type of poison as the black widow, except it has so little of it you wont even end up on hospital and none of our larger creatures are especially agressive.

Not to undermine Ledhendrix's coolness or anything but it's pretty common to be allowed to wear the glove and have a bird of prey perch on your hand at bird shows (there's a proper term for these I'm sure).

Still though birds of prey are awesome.

They have spurs on their hind legs that are loaded with poison.

The Kangaroo has something similar but it isn't for poisoning; it's for disemboweling you when they kick.

I'm pretty sure anybody who's dumb enough to provoke a large, muscular creature that's bigger than they are deserves to be disemboweled.

There's a term for it - natural selection.

The platypus is the most compelling argument for god I've ever seen.

Like, evolution/natural selection makes perfect sense and fits with the world as we experience, and we think we've got a sound theory, but wait, oh shit, what the fuck is up with the platypus? Bitch lays eggs, has a beak, poisonous feet, and is a mammal anyways. It is like god just had some stuff left over after making everything else and didn't want it to go to waste. How else do you explain that fucker?

Perhaps, but I can see why creationists don't bring it up often. I mean, to come up with that shit you'd have to be one crazy motherfucker, and who wants to worship a crazy god?

The platypus is the most compelling argument for god I've ever seen.

i don't know. you could also argue that the opposite is also true.

i mean, evolution functions because mutations fill previously under-utilized niches in the food chain, right? well, the duck-billed, egg-laying, poison-footed mammal niche is a hard one to access so it's highly unlikely that anything would evolve to fill it...but if something did, then it would undoubtedly thrive because it has no competition.

I think, but I am by no means sure, that the platypus is commonly used as an example of the evolutionary link between reptiles and mammals. I seem to remember reading that somewhere at any rate.
