Est the real trick is to make it past the initial stubbly "there is a piece of sandpaper on my face" phase, which will take around a week. shampoo and condition the every day and it'll be plenty soft, once it gets some length.

I can go about two to three weeks without shaving just fine, it's just what comes after with the heat of the thickening layer of fur on my face that is the problem.

Honestly though, flippancy (is that a word?) aside: if you don't like the feeling of having a beard there isn't really a point to growing one. Sure you'd probably badass, but is that worth being uncomfortable? You are a pretty good looking dude either way.

Yeah... for about 7 years... It was actually one of the best jobs... But I wasn't in Washington or one of the big plants... Worked in Missile Guidance in Heath, OH and at the Top Gun school for the Navy in Fallon, NV. Both really small shops. Hell, in NV, I was the only IT person... Manager, tech, and support staff all in one for about 200 peeps... Good times... I suppose being your own boss does make that job more bearable...

I had a beard for a time. It was not for style, but because I was fed up with the bother of shaving:

It was auburn, unlike the hair on top. There is a picture of it at a later, bushier stage, but I can't find it. I got fed up with it tickling, and got rid of it in less than a year.

Oh man. I was playing out at a show once and got injured like that, too. My index finger hit the P pickup on my bass and it split open to the knuckle. Someone has pictures. My hand and guitar were literally covered with blood. There was even some flicked onto my face from strumming.

I haven't posted a photo for a while... here's me on a recent bushwalk (aka hike) up in the Snowy Mountains. That mountainy looking thing in the background is Mt. Jugungal, which is apparently some kind of sacred mountain. I think its sacredness has something to do with annual feasts on the bogong moth population. I climbed it! However, I didn't eat any moths.

Also there were swarms of giant biting flies. Man those things were nasty.
