I recommend the following:

WILCO!!!, Air, Battles, Beck, Eels, Grizzly Bear, Manu Chao, Neil Young, The Unicorns, Wilco, XTC, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Plants and Animals, Why?, Animal Collective, Black Moth Super Rainbow, The Octopus Project, Cloud Cult, El Ten Eleven, The Hold Steady, Islands, Jay Reatard, Man Man, Queens of The Stone Age, The Mars Volta, Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, The Sword, Tokyo Police Club, Ween

they're all fun, and you'll be the coolest kid at your school
BTW I'm 16 and when I was 14, I was obsessed with Wilco, The Apples In Stereo, Beck, and the Shins

and to search mediaf!re, go to google and type in
site:mediaf!re.com "Queens of The Stone Age"
except with whatever band you're looking for

and if you don't have a rapidshare account, stick with mediaf!re, because you'll encounter timers, downlaod limits, spyware, and viruses with any other server

and get an enourmous hard drive to contain all your new music

EDIT: if you want other good forums for music, I'll recommend
the sound opinions message board (http://soundopinions.org/forum) (be careful; it's the most critical forum ever)
the avant garden (www.alienonacid.com)
skafunkrastapunk (skafunkrastapunk.com)

How about the radio? You can hear all sorts of great indie music from all over the world through the internet. I recommend KCRW.com in Santa Monica, CA. They have a dedicated music stream 24h/d, plus archived shows. Listen to Morning Becomes Eclectic to hear lots of great bands. There's a playlist to accompany the show too so you can figure out which bands/songs you really like. Also http://radio3.cbc.ca/ which is all Canadian indie all the time, BBC 6 in London http://www.bbc.co.uk/6music/, and KEXP.org in Seattle, WA. Great music all the time from all of them.

I recommend downloading DC++ and finding some good channels. A lot of my music is from there, you could usually find some pretty obscure shit if you look in the correct channels. Also it's not restricted to music you can look for anything on there from software to video games.

The way my brother talked about it I thought it was exclusive to his university or something. I'll be sure to grab it, thanks for the tip!

Yeah I think I might bump an ancient thread next time I like an album too.
Yeah, maybe try an 18-day one, just to be really wild.
