I enjoyed Metal Gear.  It was a solid NES game and was blissfully free of vampires, psychic ninjas and what the fuck ever else Kojima started seeing after Miyamoto turned him on to 'shrooms.

MGS1 I also remember being pretty enjoyable, since it was still mostly a game.

MGS2 was okay at first, sneaking around the boat and then taking the pictures of Metal Gear or whatever, then it just cartwheeled whooping and screaming into Bizarro World and the gameplay stopped being particularly interesting too, so whatever.

I watched a friend play a little bit of MGS3 and decided I had no interest in stupid shit like shooting snakes and wandering around bland environments.  Though the intro theme song was admittedly fucking hilarious.

Also, the "psychic ninjas" are from the first game. Or rather, there's a cyborg ninja and a psychic boss. Kojima really, really likes to revisit different incarnations of the same character throughout the MGS series, though, so there are 3 cyborg ninjas and 2 psychic bosses. Go figure.

I know there was a psychic ninja cyborg whatever in MGS1.  I only said that the ORIGINAL Metal Gear game didn't have any of that batshit crazy stuff.  At least, I don't remember it having any of that.
