WORDS
This is doing it right.

I am listening to Electric Feel by MGMT, for comparison with the Justice remix Hannah described earlier. The main thought in my mind about the song is that the chap looks like a hobbit, and the video might have been recorded in Lorien. Other than that it sounds nice I guess, very inoffensive and maybe a little catchy. Actually quite catchy. I could see myself dancing to this if I heard it, but I wouldn't rush to put it on, probably.

I have just listened to Graveyard Girl by M83, because I knew I had heard the name when I read it in casull's thread. It is kinda like being in the Breakfast Club, which is a feeling I like because a) I like that film and b) there is an ad on TV today which is trying to rip off that film. Why do you feel the need to sully everything with your dirty paws, advertising? Why? Is nothing sacred? They've done this to Terminator II to advertise cable TV or something too. Pshaw. Anyways, the Saturday = Youth album is something I would listen to more of most definitely. Also, is the line "I'm fifteen years old and I feel it's already too late to love. Don't you?" from a film or does it just sound like it should be?

I have also been listening to Untrust Us by Crystal Castles. I like their bleepychippy noise-dance stuff, all that stuff about douchebaggery aside. This is a different kettle of fish, however. To my ears, it almost sounds like some of The Knife's early stuff, which is a sound we could definitely do with more. Even the person who despises Crystal Castles and most stuff in the line of bleeperythumpery likes this song.

On reflection, it appears that I should be in bed. I am rambling.

More and more frequently I get anxiety attacks when I'm headed out to see people I haven't seen in a while. Tonight there is a 21st that I really want to go to and really don't want to freak out and turn left instead of right and end up just sitting on the beach shaking for an hour or two instead of just going and getting the hell over it. The kind of mood I'm in during the day has a huge impact on how I handle things like this so today I'm listening to Soulwax. Thanks so damn much Emilio for raving about them enough that I bothered to listen.

at this very moment, I'm listening to Milk Man by Deerhoof. I've been on a K Records kick lately and it has been brilliant. The Microphones' It Was Hot, We Stayed In The Water and anything by Mirah is the best music for riding around aimlessly on a bike.

Ana Never - Dnevnik Jednog Morfiniste

I just discovered this band off SirensSound. They are absolutely wonderful, though incredibly clichéd. Sweeping melodies, breathtaking crescendos, tremolo picking, you know the drill. But also, they sound immensely similar to Godspeed. Almost too similar, since they implement the screwdriver guitar thing Efrim loves doing. Still, they are very good and any post-rock fan should at least give this a spin. I would compare them to Mono in the sense that while they may not be original, they are fucking brilliant.

Yeah? That's pretty cool. I could never use Soulwax as pick-me-up music, just seems too detached for me. If I need something of a dance-y variety to clear my head I usually listen to PNAU or LCD Soundsystem. I suppose those aren't any less remote. Oh well.

As of this moment I'm putting aside my fatigue for it and getting back to Interpol's first album, or a few tracks of it at least. Then it's off to Iggy Pop's Lust For Life, which for all my electronica motherfuckery is probably my favorite album of all time. It never fails to engage me.

Also, aside from the "Touch Me" bassline, the banjo sounds a danged lot like the Twin Peaks stheme

It's less pick-me-up music than just something to keep my mind from settling on one thing for two long. It sounds silly but when I'm in one of those downward spirals of panicking and then panicking because I'm panicking I'll notice just some little thing in the music and then stop and listen and then just think "fuck yeah!" and it helps to snap me out of it. I think remoteness helps because it doesn't give me anything to latch on to and turn into a Thing.

On another note I think I'm going to have to listen to the new Okkervil River a couple more times. Yes it is good, but I don't think it's good enough to justify all the orgasms people are having over it.

Well, many many Jawbreaker fans don't like Dear You at all. I think it is a good album but with too much unneeded sheen, and not nearly as good as say 24 Hour Revenge Therapy.

I like Dear You.  It's a shame that the label bungled the album so badly ("Fireman" was the most single-worthy song you heard on there, guys?  Really??), because from the sounds of "For Esme", "Gemini", and "Elephant", Jawbreaker had at least one more good album in 'em at the end.

At Folsom Prison - Johhny Cash

Recently, all I've been able to listen to for a serious length of time is Goldfrapp and The Smiths. I don't know why, but I think its because of my terrible insomnia, and those two are so...cooing and relaxed. According to my best friend [and major Smiths fan], you're only supposed to listen to The Smiths when you're heartbroken, but I find it entertaining.
