If you believe what has historically been the fashionable/non-mainstream/indie music press in the UK, the only thing that exists are these shitty "nu rave" bands and Arctic Monkeys clones. If you believe the mainstream media, the only music that exists are sub-par 70s pop clones like The Feeling and their ilk, or stupid goddamned talky mockney vacuous talentless girl-pop acts like Lily Allen and Kate "Must die with burning leaves in her face" Nash. Finding actually decent music - and yes, it does exist - in Britain (and I'm not making comparisons to other countries, because I'm not aware of the mainstream or "indie" media, or whatever, there) is really hard at the moment. Gems like Field Music, Guillemots, Errors, and a bunch of others do exist, but sifting them out from the vast sea of tepid shit clogging up the charts at the moment is a tough, tough job.
I know, I know, I'm getting old, I'm nearly 30, all music sounds better when you're younger, I don't understand the kids anymore, whatever. Fuck it. Have you heard Scouting for Girls?
