--- Quote from: mooface on 04 Aug 2008, 15:18 ---okay this is going to sound really dumb and petty in light of this overwhelming story, so i apologize in advance.  but... why did her adopted parents stick their son with the washing machine?  couldn't he share a room with dani?  i mean, i was more upset about what happened to her than to him, obviously.  but he's all 'yeah i take a walkie talkie with me because it's scary down there'. sad!

--- End quote ---
i feel really bad for the son as well.

--- Quote ---No real message other than, "See!  We're not completely fucked!  People are still nice!  People still care!", and while that's not entirely untrue, I could watch 1 in 10 television programs right now and see the exact same message.  It's just kind of a lame article.
--- End quote ---
that's what really bothers me about the news.
however, i didn't really think of it when reading this story.

Lines:
I am so happy Dani was removed from that dump and placed with people who are taking good care of her. Yes, I wish that her brother wasn't in the laundry room, but I'm not going to make assumptions about the size of the house they live in. Also, it's probably not a good idea for the two of them to share.

I really wish they hadn't offered her "mother", if you can call her that, a deal so she wouldn't go to jail. If her house was that bad, obviously she has problems taking care of anything, so she needs to be put somewhere.

jhocking:
The text implies that giving up his room was a voluntary decision, but it is vague on that point. If the parents forced him, yeah that's pretty weird.

--- Quote from: Switchblade on 05 Aug 2008, 03:49 ---If nothing else, try looking at it in terms of straight maths.

1 fucking abysmal "mother" < 2 wonderful, loving foster parents.

By extension (yes, I know I'm guilty of a logical fallacy here, but I'm trying to be comforting  :-) ) that means there are more good people in the world than bad.

--- End quote ---

No, the idea is that "This evil thing is rooted deep in all good" because "Savagery and Civilization are connected as lower and higher stages of one formation."

RedLion:
The trade off for our ability to create and express unparalleled beauty, love, and compassion is that we also have the ability to cause unparalleled death, destruction, suffering and pain.

(Look at me, being all philosophical, fiddle-dee-dooo!)
