Re Gilead's shorts: Wear Keds or the lace up old school Vans! Those would look pretty awesome with your shorts.

I have worn tights often enough but a skirt is taking it a bit too far Mr Valley.

Also, that was the picture I was thinking of Mr Bacon, cutoffs are how they are described and while not "fashionable" few things that are designed for hot weather are.

In other news, I've decided to give up on trying to be ahead of the curve at all, and will from now on be drawing 90% of my clothing inspiration from the 1970's. I just got some bellbottoms. I am pretty excited about this.

That is a great line of reasoning. I just can't agree that bellbottoms are a good idea, sorry.

ADDITION: Hey lunchy, look I talked fashion!

Just wait and see.

This is why I don't wear shorts if I know a camera is anywhere in the vicinity.

If the romans could conquer Europe in sandals then its good enough for me. I even have a pair of walking sandals.

Sandals and pants, combine to make fail.

That website 'knowing their stuff' is a stupid way of saying if you're enough of an asshole you can say whatever shit you want.

Actually, even saying YOU LOOK LIKE SHIT could probably work if you did it right.

Look jhocking is making another meaningful contribution to the fashion advice thread.

No Mr Cat, I wear cutoffs, not shorts. Trust me I am hardly going to be wearing tousers and sandals together! That would be a bad a faux pas as wearing snadals and socks!

What's so bad about sandals with pants again? I do it. I know guys that do it too and I don't see the big deal.

I've got no problem with it. Jeans and sandals would be odd, but trousers -especially khakis- and sandals are fine. Of course, I wouldn't be wearing them unless I was on a beach or something, but that is just because I always wear boots. Always.

No, seriously. You just said they were fail, but you didn't say why. I'm the kind of person who hates wearing shoes in warm weather and it's very rare that I wear socks during summer. My preferred shoes in warm weather are sandals and since I don't wear shorts that often, I wear them with jeans. Yeah, I'll wear flats as well, but not nearly as often.

Besides, I keep my feet pretty during the warm seasons.

I think this summer I defined pretty well why one shouldn't wear cut-offs. I wasn't going for stylish here-

those aren't cut-offs/

These are cut-offs:

Girls are a bit of a different story, generally guys pants are a little bit baggier which leaves you with conflicting bagginess over foot-freedom that is awkward to say the least.

I think the rule of thumb is less than 10 posts per day for the first few weeks? Read it somewhere. After people are more used to you, I guess it's fine to post more. Don't mind Kieffer, though.

Eh, I'm a bit obviously biased here, but comments to new posters should be snark-free and preferably sent in personal messages to be seen as helpful. Elsewise you just appear to be a jerk trying to poke fun at a new target.

The problem with sending feedback in a PM is that nobody else sees it. I italicized that bit because that also happens to be exactly why people suggest PMing or email, so that there's no public criticizing. The problem though is that the the person being directly addressed isn't the only one who could benefit from the feedback; you want everyone to know what is and is not considered acceptable by the community.

Y'know how newbies are frequently advised to lurk for a while to learn community norms? Well what is the point of that "lurk first" advice if the only way to hear any rules is by breaking the rules and then being PMed about it?

That all said, yeah don't be snarky when giving feedback. If you mean to be helpful, then don't act like a jerk.

ADDITION: What's wrong with "snarky"? The only other word that means quite the same thing is "sarcastic," and that seems cumbersome sometimes.

saying that certain things are worse doesn't justify an action. like, its okay for me to be racist because i'm not a murderer? i'm not sure about that. poking fun might be better than being overtly mean, but that still doesn't mean you're not a dick if you poke fun at someone with the deliberate intention of hurting their feelings and making them feel shitty. obviously if they get it and are okay with it, that's a bit different. i don't see a good reason not to just be nice to people whenever you can.

Honestly? The whole "10 posts a day" rule of thumb is because of me. Putting it in terms of a number is just more polite than coming right out and saying "joe posts too much, don't be that guy." I am the fine line between talkative and verbal diarrhea.

A huge amount of his posts involve unnecessary smileys, excessive exclamation points, and really really bad jokes. It's not just that he's posting a lot, it's that he's posting a lot of drivel

I can quote examples if you want, but I think I may have just gotten a step too mean.

Then why don't you PM him and ask him not to use smileys and exclamation points? Why the approach that is essentially intended to make him feel bad and that doesn't even address the issue you're really going after?

I mean I guess your approach is favourable if you just want him off the forums but I don't think we should be bullying people out when we can just give them a nudge instead.

Read jhocking's post, jens.

And yes, i'd say i think mr bugman is posting many posts but with too little content. It is not atrocious but not good either.

That hat is really hard to pull off and while it fits his head alright and everything he just doesnt have the look or the body to match (its reserved for neo-Joey Jeremiahs or people who dress classes head to toe), he shirt shouldnt be buttoned to the top, it's an uncomfortable affectation that makes him look stupid to boot.  The pants are far far to blue, I dont care if the lighting is bringing it out.  Too damn blue..  The camera is a fun affectation as long as it's actually functional as well.  The shirts themselves are alright, and knuckle tatoos are always cool, even if they just say "Love, Hate" or something as trivial, they are kind of like neck tatoos poking over the collar that way.

Is rocketpocket code for him having hella visible dick? That is some awesome terminology.

Also, Jeans, all I did was tell the dude he was making too many posts. I didn't bring up what I perceive as the lack of quality in his posting, because that is mean. You have dragged this thing out, made a big deal out of it, when the dude I commented to took it in stride. You just made it a thing because you wish I was still banned, not because of any actual reason. I asked the guy to follow the rules of the forum. I did it in a way that wasn't excessively hostile, wasn't even that rude, in a way that if anyone else had posted it, no one would have thought twice. But you know, enjoy your vendetta.

I... I uhhhh...  I agree with Jens on this subject.  Telling people the rules in public both serves to educate the people who may break them in the future as well a little public humiliation sends the message home a bit better than a PM which is coming from just one guy.

But being a flaming asshole about it doesn't do shit.  All it does is let everyone know your an asshole, and if you are ok with that then fine whatever.  But dont hurt he forum as a whole by doing it.  This forum has historically had issues with with discouraging newbies as well as seeming very clique-y which made it even harder for new members to break in.

Yeah, if people who tend to jump all over new kids who fuck up could just not make such a big deal about it, and if the new kids could not take it so personally and maybe take the Internet with a grain of salt, I predict that we will be a happier and less obnoxious forum with less pointless drama and fewer schisms that arise for no reason.

I think that the hat largely depends on attitude. If you act uncertain about the hat, it looks bad. If you act like it's part of you, it can look good. Be sure that your hat fits your clothes, though. Fedoras tend to get worn when they really don't fit, with jeans or shorts and t-shirts. Top hats are not commonly worn poorly, but I think that is because less people have them. I personally really like the flat caps that seem to have come back into fashion recently, they tend to go well with casual clothes, and even old-guy casual that can pass for semi-proper attire these days. I might just be saying that because I always wear mine.

See, I have never harbored any illusions about being able to wear a hat and look decent. My head is just too gigantic. Even stocking caps do not work on me. This is very inconvenient, because, being in WI in winter, my head is often quite cold. It runs in my family too: my dad looks ridiculous is each and every hat he has every worn. Though it's never stopped him.

Basically: Damn my ill-formed skull.

I have a very small head, and hats generally look ridiculous on me.

Earflap hats are the exception. Perhaps it is that they are meant to look ridiculous, but I can get away with them.

This photo made me laugh. Why? Because it proves my number one pet peeve about men wearing tight pants. I do not want to see which side your dick likes to hang out on, okay.

I generally look decent in hats. Depends on the hat, but I can pull of the ridiculous knitted ear flap hat as well as flapper-style hats and cabby hats. I can pull of those huge, fancy hats, too, but as I don't go to Ascot on a regular basis, I do not feel the urge to buy one.

I've been occasionally putting a tshirt over a buttonup and then tucking the buttonup half into my pants so it doesn't look like I have a little buttonup skirt thing coming out, is this an okay practice?
The tshirt hides the fact that I've got a buttonup tucked in.

What about the sleeves? Maybe I'm imagining this wrong but in my head it looks really strange.

Take a picture?

I'm going to ask, what is the point of putting a buttonup under a tshirt?
