If only Jace, if only.

Also, in the third picture that is a shirt! (although I admit that I blend the line between the two a whole lot)

APC/Vans not in the picture/Blink 182 Reunion/AA Scarf+Card.

The scarf is a bit sloppy. but ah well, it gets straighter right after I take this picture.

Man, the gold dress may be a fashion atrocity, but it is still pretty damn hot.

The gold dress on it's own is not so great, but worn like in the last picture it's fine.

this.

on its own, it is just like, hey i am a hot girl with a hot body wearing a tacky shiny 80's dress and managing to make it look decent.

that last picture is an example of good fashions

Thinkin about this one, what if you wore it as a high skirt over a white blouse in the currently fashionable mode

The gold dress is fine as she is the right age and shape to pull it off, so long as you don't over accessorise, hair down and tousled, maybe wear flats/leggings to dress it down. Not to mention the fact if you've picked it up to wear to a drag bar, you'd be pretty hard pressed to look overdressed! I always save my clothes that for bars like that, you can totally get away with it!

I have wellingtons (I'm english, rainboots sounds odd) like that, different colour though. I wear them with bright tights and a full skirt with a girly blouse and home made cardigan. It looks better than it sounds...

I also have socks like that and wear them with short denim shorts, docs/chucks (Depending on the weather) old cut up band t-shirts. It must be a good look, I met my boyfriend wearing it.

Are these all thrift stores buys? If so, wow! x

The cold dress pretty much needs to be worn with tights of some sort, otherwise it rides up too much. I really love those boots.

Also I was thinking about that with those socks something similar but perhaps with my tweed shorts(more comfortable than it sounds really). But we'll see, I kinda like being ridiculous.

Also, probably half and half as far as thrift, but most of it was on sale. It was good to get out and find some ridiculous clothing.

Also, Julia, I know the insinuation you're trying to make, but I'm going to disregard it mainly because those shoes would look terrible with it.

Okay Fashionistas

I scoured the opshops (thrift stores) this afternoon and got a whole bunch of things!
The most expensive things in this outfit are the tights which were a princely $14.95 from Sportsgirl.

(Also excuse the face and hair, it is late and has been a long day.)

Okay but I am having hella troubles trying to figure out what shoe sto wear with it! I am planning on wearing this out for drinks on my birthday which will involve lots of walking and lots of drunk, so I want to steer away from heels but they look SO GOOD. My favourite choice are the cream chucks because they add a touch of whimsy I guess? Or do they just look retarded?
There's the chucks, my battered cowboy boots, charcoal oxford mary-janes, ruby flats and faux patent leather heels.

Oh oh also, fashion thread, this is the shirt my boss has been making me wear. We all have one.
On the front it has a little 'K' (for the name of the shop) in a shield, like Arsenal football team (because my boss is a fanatic).

Faux patent leather. Second choice is the mary-janes but they've got too much going on around the top and aren't as black.

Also my first thought on seeing that was this, but on actually looking at the album art again maybe not so much.

This one time I designed these heels so that you could detach the high heel bit and walk around like flats.

I never ended up making the prototype because I have no shoe making equipment, and have not made shoes before.

And the first time one fell off at an inopportune moment, giving somebody a sprained ankle, you would lose all the money you had gained.

Also, lunchy, I think the mary janes would be best out of all those options. Only thing is that that means you have a huge area of unbroken blackness - but the red doesn't match (possibly if you brought in a red accessory you could wear the red flats with it and rock it) and the chucks are chucks.

Heels actually break on normal shoes every now and then, so I'm not sure that would be so much of a problem. I can think of other problems, though.

I don't mind those red shoes, by the way. I guess I'd go for those or the mary-janes.

The shape of the sole would be a huge problem, I think. Heels require a lot more support and a stiffer sole/toe than flats do, so the conversion would be slightly difficult, I'd assume.

A think the red shoes would be a better way to provice some "whimsy" than the Chucks with that outfit, but I don't really know how they'd look alone. But with black shoes, the entire bottom 2/3rds become very black..

Red Flats are the best, but I don't really like the 'fit. The high waisted skirt and the tights are too much black, it makes you look kind of bulky around the hips, and the way the top is tucked in makes your whole midsection look pretty rectangular.

I'm going to be the sole vote for chucks. I think it looks cool because they seem to have the same colour as the shirt (at least it looks that way in the picture) and I'm all about repetition of one element. The red flats are cute as well, though.

I knew someone was going to throw a little shitfit about my use of sartorialist. If she wore that outfit with any of the other shoe options, it'd just be a cute outfit. With the chucks, the guy from the sartorialist would cream himself and you know it, even if you don't agree with my use of the term.

I really just wanted the chance to swing a vote away from the hideousness that is flats with stockings.

PS- I did not mean sartorial and fuck up. Sartorial refers to tailored clothing, sartorialIST is the blog reference.

The sartorialist would cream himself over a poorly implemented and played out footwear concept with a pencil skirt and a shirt that doesn't fit very well?

Actually you might be right, I just went through and there's a bunch of outfits that are decent until you scroll down and notice they're wearing terrible shoes that don't match the aesthetic at all.

The only reason I don't like the chucks with the outfit is because they are high tops. I don't like high top chucks with skirts, shorts, capris, etc. because I think it looks weird. It makes your legs look shorter, if that makes sense. If they were the original ones, it'd be fine. I like the combination of sneakers with skirts and I do it often. I'm just weird and like either shoes that are below the ankle or mid-calf to knee when worn with skirts.

Also I like the flats because they are red and red shoes are awesome.

I don't know; I think the Sartorialist dude really digs more on shape and texture. Having said that now, there's a picture on the front page right now with almost the same outfit only the girl has a leather jacket over it and shiny black low heels. I don't think there's anything wrong with monotone outfits--I think they look super classy. But if you broke up the black leg, black skirt to waist with a patent black shoe it would make it not boring.

Out of the choices you have there, I'd pick the red ones, but any color flats/low heels would look good (red is kind of an obvious choice with black and white though). Or go for a shiny black or dark grey shoe.

Heh, I got the reference, Manda. I dunno, I mean, I can't trash that chucks because it's totally something I would do if I was feeling 'throw-backy' to my old self that say. I dunno, Lunchy, like Kieffer said, I'm not really a fan of the outfit, I think the shirt it too loose/boxy for the skirt. I would go with the red flats though just because I feel like the outfit needs some visual interest. I dunno, but even like a bright red shoe seems a bit juvenile to me for some reason with all black. I know it's like one of those 'classic' looks but I always thinks it looks kinda like you're trying too hard.

I was just assured by my 40something coworker that Lunchy is stupid and insecure and needs to stop wasting time on the internet and should wear the heels with that because no other shoes go with it. Also she liked the outfit but condemed all but the two black heel combos.
Sometimes she doesn't know how to use a computer though, so I don't know how much her opinion matters, but I agree with Kieffer and Julia.

Man, this is why I have worn a uniform of jeans and t-shirts forever.
So much effort!

Anyway I have decided the shirt (it is a lovely soft, slightly sheer material and so comfy, but yes, a few sizes too large) would be great open with a tank top and some jeans and chucks for a lazy autumn outfit, I will try that one day. I'd like to find another coloured (dark blue? bottle green?) fitted blouse to wear with the skirt, and i really dig the way the black tights look with the black skirt so I am not changing that.
Also I will try and find some new black flats, I have some but they aren't really black anymore. It is ridiculous that I am a lady and I am so bad at wearing high heels, anywhere I have to walk more than about a hundred metres I am practically dying in agony or already fallen on my arse. I live in the city and walk everywhere, so it's kind of impossible to wear heels out.

God it is so hard trying to look slightly interesting when the budget I have to work with only stretches to thrift store chic and I don't have any sort of sewing equipment so I can't alter things.

It is ridiculous that I am a lady and I am so bad at wearing high heels

I do not even own high heels. And I am a lady, despite the fact that I look like a 14-year-old boy:

I fail at fashion, but at least I know it. Not to say that anyone here is failing and not knowing it.

If I ever have some spending money at my disposal, I suppose I'll go out and get some real clothes. Any thoughts on things I definitely need?

You have like 3 feet of hair. You can make yourself not look like a 14 year old boy.
Just sayin.

Buy a skirt or something maybe?

Step one, do not ever wear a backwards baseball cap again, it makes you look like you'd accost me on a train for a cigarette and my change and call me a cunt when I said no.

Guys, I haven't worn a skirt in public in ages and hardly ever wear heels because it is impractical. These are not the things that lady-fashion automatically make!

Looking like a lady requires one thing:

1) Wearing women's clothing (just make sure it fits well).
