Architecture in Helsinki Cover!
« on: 08 Aug 2008, 14:37 »

Hey all, I know I haven't said anything on these boards in forever (I think it's been almost a year!), but I recently discovered a cover of Architecture in Helsinki - Heart it Races, by Dr. Dog while I was on this site called Fairtilizer.

Now I desperately want to own this song, but apparently it's on the Heart it Races single, which I can't find anywhere to download on the internet or buy in a store!  I really only want this song.  Anyone know where I might be able to find it?

Also, what is everyone's opinion of Architecture in Helsinki?  I love them with great fervor.

It literally took me twenty-three seconds to find on Amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/Heart-It-Races/dp/B000X71G8U/ref=dmusic_cd_album?ie=UTF8&qid=1218231922&sr=8-6

Also, I know their latest album is what initially turned me on to Architecture in Helsinki, but once I had the whole thing to listen to (instead of the thirty-second samples on Amazon) I found it pretty awful compared to their first two. They should have stuck to twee while they were on a roll.

Sorry, I can't help you in your venture, but I'll reply anyway.

I just downloaded some of their stuff off some random site and I've only listened to In Case We Die (once), but I really liked them. It reminded me of Xiu Xiu, if they were on a shitload of Prozac and decided to release a pop album.

Heart it Races is a fucking brilliant song, and In Case We Die is a fucking brilliant album but Places Like This, the actual album with Heart It Races, leaves a lot to be desired.  I'ma go listen to In Case We Die now, thanks!

Really, not Places Like This? I think it's their best work, if not by far. Just seems more, erm, complete. Maybe it's becasue they lost a few members between albums and were able to tighten up the creative process a little.
Still, it's a fair departure from the twee they used to do, so I'm sure a fair whack of fans won't be able to make the transition.

I think Places Like This is a pretty good record. It's a lot of fun and an interesting step in a different direction. The only thing I don't really like about it is the vocals are kind of annoying sometimes, but I guess I could say that about all Architecture in Helsinki albums.

I think Places Like This is their weakest album. It really turned me off them for a while. Fingers Crossed is a far superior album - the lyrics are sincere and witty, unlike the mostly nonsensical shit they wrote for Places Like This, and the music is far more interesting and less derrivative.

So, everyone check out Fingers Crossed, because it's really good! Maybe I'll put it in the mediafire thread later.

This! It's how I survived the complete and total boredom of this spring until gigging season rolled around.

At first I thought you said giggling season.  That sounds like a lot more fun than gigging season.

I don't want to be that guy who says that their earlier works are better, but in this case I think it's true unfortunately.  Their first album was something really special.  Their second album was a little less special but more polished so it kind of made up for it.  I have bought the subsequent albums out of a kind of hope and also a desire to support local acts.
