for the Poison the Well and Thrice recs:

for PTW - they're all great, although I'm partial to The Opposite of December, You Come Before You, and Tear From  the Red (in decreasing order of preferred-ness) - I guess you could say Versions is their most 'accessible' - but for me it is their least interesting and engaging album. I'd say: if you like xhardcorex - Opposite of Dec / if you like solid songwriting - You Come Before You

for Thrice - it depends on what sounds you like. All their albums sound a bit different. Their earlier stuff is a lot more punky/hardcore/metal type stuff, and The first Alchemy Index(Indices?) album has some electronic and ambient elements to it. MY favorite's of theirs are The Artist in the Ambulance (their heaviest) and Vheissu (most 'balanced') - but that's just me.

For pointing out that he doesn't like Zeppelin. That's a guaranteed faux pas.

Gaz doesn't take bigotry too well. Neither do I, for that matter. Tread lightly.

Man I am well-known for being a dick about religion on a fairly regular basis but it was just an unnecessary thing to say.

I would never make fun of conventional Islam.  That's against just about everything I believe in.

By radical-Islam, I mean fundamentalism in general, something I attribute to cold seriousness and not much else.  Islam is just the most prominent example of fundamentalism, so I mentioned it as well.

Islam is a beautiful and compelling religion and one that I think would set an example for other religions if not for the bad stereotypes running rampant in our media.  I think that people who think being a Moslem is a bad thing (like those people who "accuse" Barack Obama of being one) are low and ignorant.

Regardless, I was a douche, and the implications I'd made were bad.  I'm deleting my original post so no further misconception can be made.

To briefly go back to the Zeppelin thing, you should get this two-disk "Best of" appropriately named "The Best of Led Zeppelin".  I got it for ten bucks new.  Don't buy it on Amazon because it sells both CDs seperately, but if that's the only deal you find, and the one I got was a mutant or something, get the Latter Days disk, because it has both No Quarter and Kashmir on it.

i listen to so much random shit that it'd take me ages to go through and list all that are defunct now (although not as many as are still around, admittedly), but i feel, following your thrice mentionage, i should make the following recommendation - if you like thrice, particularly Vheissu, you MUST check out "Lions Write History" by In Pieces.  yeah, they're defunct, but that album was awesome.

I am posting in this thread again because I listened to Rites of Spring for the first time last night, and was pretty blown away. I think I liked End on End better than most Fugazi stuff I've listened to, which was certainly surprising. And I was disappointed to find that Guy Picciotto hasn't really done any other lead vocals. Any suggestions of bands that capture the same kind of Rites of Spring thing, whether because they're early emocore, or because Guy is singing?
