Bands you've discovered because of game soundtracks
Zingoleb:
Shit. I was so focused on such a small amount of music that GH actually really opened me up to a lot of bands...Rob Zombie, Queens of the Stone Age, Pantera, Dragonforce...of course, by the third one, I pretty much either knew or hated all the songs on that. Then Radio X had a decent selection I liked...weird! I heard "Running Down a Dream" by Petty for the first time on GTA:SA and it just came on!
Koji Kondo, I love you.
Oh, man, looking up things on-line, I found Jim Cook, who does Metal Zelda. I'd recommend it if you like metal or the Zelda series.

SSX3, Burnout takedown/revenge gave me some new shit to listen to but alot of it was just more of the songs I liked already.
http://www.ragdollsoft.com/particles/ this game has a song by Dimrain47 who does some of the best electro/?????? stuff I have ever listened to.
Lead Head:
Well not necessarily a band, whoever does the sound tracks for Half Life 2 does some good stuff.
Melodic:
Kelly Bailey.
KvP:
I didn't know or care at the time, but the first exposures I had to Nine Inch Nails and Skinny Puppy / Type O Negative were from Quake and Descent, respectively.
