Thoughts, sure.

Why didnt you just post a link to a thing written by a real sportsjournalist?

(Also, have you ever been told that before you start a thread, you ought to ask yourself "would the general population of this forum appreciate this?" and that if the answer is no, it is probably a better idea not to hit that enticing post button? Not only will you recieve scorn from old fogies like me, but you also make yourself look as a rather arrogant person. "I know we do not have a superlative amount of American Football fans on this forum" and then still hitting that post button...

And FYI, I also do not give a crap about some silly "football" game.

No, what i am saying is, that

a). You decided that your "good" ideas for threads, while knowing the majority of people here could care less, were to prevail over that great "common interest" thing. This concept of yours, makes for rather low quality threads.

b). Your statement that someone-once-had-an-interest-in-something, is an absolute crappy argument in a debate.

c). Yes, i do consider the "football" you are referring as a silly sport, go watch real football (or "soccer" as some weirdos like to call it), or proper rugby.

d).

Well, then why would people who havent asked for a writeup, need a rather bland writeup on this game, they dont care about in the first place?

I like watching american football with people who get it. It'd be great if I actually kind of understood the game. I could get behind a thread devoted to the joys of football.

I have to agree, though, that a thread devoted to one single game - a game that already happened - seems kinda lame.

This forum can be oddly hostile about sport sometimes, I'd just find somewhere else to discuss it. Or post when all the europeans are in bed; the Americans seem to deal with it better.

I think we would do better to just have a thread for the entire season, instead of threads for individual games. Not that I would post often. I watch about 1 game a year. Usually a Michigan game when I'm visiting my father.

yeah, I don't get the whole anti-American-football thing. Is it that Europeans are offended by the idea of having a sport that shares a name with one of theirs? American football is actually a very complex and involved game, people try to act like it's a dumb game but it takes a lot of discipline (or interest) to learn.

HAHAHA

I was going to start a college football thread here and then I realized what kind of message board this is.

But yeah. That game was intense, I believe 24 points were scored in the last six minutes of the game? and can you imagine how shitty the tennessee kicker must feel? he saved the game, and then lost it all over again.

Yeah Nobo, there was no reason on earth he should have missed that kick, he just plain whiffed it. I don't know about 24 points in 6 minutes, but it was a really, really good game. It had me on the edge of my seat the entire time.

Well, kinda, but it is hard to have too many high expectations. Last year did not go too well and they just got a new coach and he does not seem to be clicking too well with the Michigan Offense; more trying to fit it to him then fitting himself to it. There is a lot of talent on the team but I have no faith in the coaching staff. I was not hugely surprised they lost.

UCLA was down 4, they scored a touchdown, then tenn score a touchdown, UCLA scored another one, and the tenn got the field goal. 24 points from when i started watching maybe halfway through the last quarter. awesome game to watch though. kept me up way too late and i was tired all of today at work

as a michigan alum i was a bit disappointed in the game. i still think they'll win enough to get to a bowl game, but its a bummer that the rich rodriquez era couldn't have started off better. What i'm most excited about is USC and OSU play each other, that means one of them has to have a defeat this year.

we have miami of ohio, toledo and notre dame left in our nonconference schedule. While none of these teams are exactly cupcakes, i think we'll have our stuff together enough to win.

btw. Eastern Michigan blew some team out of the water last week. they may have a good year too.

as much as i would like to be optimistic about the season this year, notre dame's abysmal showing last year leaves me with nothing but pessimism. *sigh* and i had such high hopes for jimmy clausen too....

i wish i could actually go to a game or two... to get tickets i have to donate so i can get into the alumni ticket lottery to win a chance to buy tickets. i can't even really afford the tickets, how am i supposed to donate!?

you can always check craigslist for single game tickets. you're lucky because ND has an exclusive television deal with ABC or NBC so most of your games will be on TV. To catch a northwestern game I have to have a friend go to the game with a camcorder and mail me the VHS. Then i have to find a VCR at a garage sale or something. :(

Being a longtime Mizzou fan, I keep waiting for someone to pinch me.  Last season (with the Oklahoma games being the exceptions) was amazing, and it looks to be the same this year.  Suddenly I don't hate Gary Pinkel as much as I used to.  It sucks that I won't be home for the Texas game, but I might be able to go see them play Kansas, which is pretty much going to be one of the most intense games all season

Its hard getting out of the big 12 north considering you have to face texas or oklahoma at the end of the year. even if you're a one loss team, a loss that late in the season guarantees a drop in the polls.

Yeah, that is for sure. USC has it somewhat easier in that regard, but I think they got tired of people mocking the strength (or lack thereof) of their conference so scheduled OSU for that very reason. One of the top two teams will not go undefeated. Woo!

yeah, the pac 10 isn't very deep. outside of cal, ucla, and oregon having an occasional on year USC rarely gets challenged.

either way, so long as notre dame keeps losing i'll be happy :)

well... their third string quarterback started that game and threw 4 picks in the first half. unless the rest of the team gets healthy i think they'll have just an ok year and finish behind USC. i think its way too early to tell.

This is looking to be a good football year.  Mizzou playing well, plus with Kansas City "rebuilding" on the pro side, I'll actually have more time to focus on other teams, not just my favorite post-season chokers.  I think i'm going to keep an eye on Miami and the Jets in particular this year, kinda interested in how Pennington and Farve are going to do for their respective teams

Hey, that's my birthday!

I get to go to the Rose Bowl on the Stanford@UCLA band day. Which is awesome, because last year for Stanford's field show, the band made a giant penis. And pantsed the audience. Awesome!

Plus, come on, free close-to-front row tickets in the Rose Bowl, recognized by one of those societies as one of the great engineering marvels of the US.

yeah... WTF ECU? where did they come from? they won their bowl game last year, but who could have guessed they would knock off two ranked teams to start the year? Especially a stacked WVU team that barely lost any starters. I just hope they don't fizzle out towards the end of the year like Southern Florida did last year, it would suck to have such huge victories go to waste.

App State has won 3 straight Div I-AA championships, they're more of a dynasty than an underdog story.

Boise State vs. Oklahoma from a few years back with the hook and ladder and statue of liberty plays to win the bowl game is probably the best underdog story this decade
