Let's Play: Creatures 3/Docking Station
« on: 08 Sep 2008, 04:41 »

Some QCers might be familiar with the "let's play" threads of places like Something Awful. Basically, I'm going to have a go at playing this game and document my playing of it. Sounds boring? Yeah, it probably is. I'll have some audience participation, though.

Basically, in the Creatures series you get to raise, teach and eventually try to breed little critters called "Norns". These critters have their own genomes and genes coding for various things and can mutate over each successive generation, giving rise to weird behaviours and different colours, etc.

I'll start off with one male (the  brown one) and one female Norn (the purple one), both of which will need names. Oh, and the beige thing is an Ettin, some weird technologically obsessed critter.

So, names...

For his crimes against the internet and language, ? was consigned to the cold void, where his soul may find no rest. (Translation: I blew him out the goddamn airlock).

Meanwhile, the female Norn ate cheese and listened to music with manic glee. After eating her fill of dairy products, she passed out from exhaustion. It is quickly becoming apparent what terrible creatures these Norns are.

I decided to replace the Language Criminal with another Norn and sent both as-yet-unnamed Norns to the Re-education centre. Both appeared all too aware of the fate of their fellow Norn and were keen to learn how to speak English.

As soon as you get enough, you should teach them that violence is the answer.

In the Jungle habitat is a pool of piranhas.

I shall illustrate what they do with this baby Grendel.

In the interests of making Natural Selection as Selectyest as possible, I have introduced piranhas into every possible body of water. Even the ocean. Yup, these piranhas are so hardy that they can even survive in salt water.

Did I mention that these bizarre space piranhas can reproduce through parthenogenesis? So it's not long before one piranha turns into dozens!
