i'll probably get shit for this, but the newest Four Year Strong and A Day to Remember albums.  i wouldn't call them guilty pleasures exactly (as i think the concept of a GUILTY pleasure in music is ridiculous), but it doesn't quite make sense that i'd like these bands, as they play the most saccharine, cheesy pop-punk (with none of the gruffness that makes pop-punk great), combined with the most generic of metalcore breakdowns, and some almost sickening overproduction... and yet i can't seem to get enough lately!

that said, i've heard older material by both bands and it both sucks and blows.

A Day To Remember is definitely one of my guilty pleasures.

"Ask not what you can do for your country
Ask what your country has done to you"

"Quit whining, you haven't done anything wrong
Because quite frankly
You haven't done much of anything"

may i suggest "run kid run"?  SUCH an underrated song!

i'm rocking the self-titled lifetime album atm.  i'd put off buying it as i'd heard it was a real letdown compared to the older stuff.  this is decidedly not the case.  awesome stuff!

just got "ringing in the dawn" by trial by fire this afternoon and it's some face-ripping melodic hardcore and no mistake!  the drummer went on to join the loved ones, and the singer and bassist have just started a new band called beasts of no nation with members of darkest hour and the explosion, and they're similarly badass - listen for yourselves!

i just found on my computer a song tagged "eating-babies" but with no artist or album or other information, other than I added it to my library back in January. It's pretty good. Not the most remarkable, but tight pop rock with a bit of lo-fi edge to it. It ends with a distinctive sounding synth noise that vibratos and gets higher and faster as the track ends, after the other instruments have stopped.

Does that ring any bells with anyone?

Live version of "Ashes of American Flags" by Wilco off of Kicking Television.  All of Nels Cline's guitar work on this album is superb, but it is the solo on this track that makes me think he is one of the best and most innovative guitarists I've ever heard.

hell yeah, I just recently started listening to that album again and I forgot how fucking awesome it is from start to finish.

and speaking of old albums we forgot were awesome, I'm listening to The 1900's "Cold & Kind" for the first time in a grip and it is so excellent. I completely forgot about it until just now.
