Jason Lux

So, I already posted this in the Plug Yr Comic thread, but I've been looking around and it seems like it's (somewhat) acceptable to make a new thread about your new comic.  Honestly, my bad if I'm wrong, but here it is:

Cronny.com

If you have any input or criticism, I'd love to hear it.  Or if you like it and want to link to it from your site, that would also be great.

I'm trying to avoid what I've identified as the typical pitfalls and cliches of webcomics (knowledge of nerd culture notwithstanding), and I've tried my best to make this thing have a distinct voice.  I already have a couple of general story arcs that I'm building towards, with enough room to dick around with that it'll hopefully still feel unconstrained.

Just a dude trying to get his name out there.  Thanks for taking a look!

Your backgrounds are surprisingly decents, but it seems to me the style for your characters is sort of cliche still. With enough practice it should evolve into something unique and possibly decent though. My only other major perp is that it's about middle/high school students, which only really appeals to people in that age group.

I definitely understand your gripe about the demo that this might appeal to.  I have that feeling that as I am able to flesh the story out more and more, it will become clear to the people reading that I am not just trying to make a petty he-said-she-said high school drama comic.  I will prove that there's more to it than that.  If I do my job, the age of these characters will be irrelevant to their relatability.  Only time will allow me to prove that.  And I should say that I'm in neither high school nor middle school.

As someone who considers himself an artist, your "cliche" comment alarmed me.  But I'm a big boy and I can take some constructive criticism.  What specifically makes my style cliche?  I certainly don't think I'm the worst offender in that category.  But I shouldn't make excuses.  I really do want to know what I can do to improve.

Thanks.

I enjoyed the hell out of it! The writing is fun and the storyline is fairly engaging. I think we as the reader might need to see more of Liz to figure out why he's so fixated.

To be honest, though, I find it kind of hard to tell the friends apart right now. Probably, that will get easier as their personalities assert themselves more and their faces get more defined in your head also, but for the time being, I'm having to squint at hairstyles a lot. Maybe include a cast page?

I liked pandabitch, too.

Hah, thanks so much.  I agree about not seeing enough of Liz.  I think I was a little overeager to get going with a storyline, so I didn't build her up enough.  Also, in the big scheme of the comic, Liz isn't very important, but nobody else has any way of knowing that, so you're totally right.

Also, thanks for confirming what I was afraid of about Cory and Newton...  I need to get on that pronto.

Also, does the little brother just have a bad haircut, or is that some kind of headwear on his head? I'm not trying to be a smartass, I just honestly can't figure it out. Something about the lines is throwing me off.

"Easy, Rudolph" is probably my favorite line out of the whole thing.

I'll start commenting on the actual comics instead of here from this point on.

Haha, yeah, that's just crazy hair.  No special head-gear.
