The Imaginary TOUR Thread
« on: 29 Sep 2008, 14:39 »

I honestly would love to see a "The South Will Rock Again" tour featuring bands like DBT, My Morning Jacket, Uncle Tupelo, old Wilco, Neil Young, Little Feat, Cowboy Junkies, etc. Giant gallon hats would be distributed along with massive amounts of whiskey. Sorry, no Kings of Leon, Ryan Adams, or freebird covers allowed.

I imagine the poster to look something like this:

I just want to see Radiohead, Muse and My Morning Jacket before I die.  And MuteMath, even though I've already seen them a few times.  So I guess I'd just lump those all together even though they don't really fit.

Hmm... CoC, Down, Black Label Society, and Clutch touring together. No idea what it would be called, but it would be awesome.

Fleet Foxes sound like they should be from the South, so they should be on this tour.

Same with all the ones I listed except for BLS. Down and CoC are from NOLA and North Carolina, Clutch is from Maryland, which is the south if you are in the north, but the north if you are in the south.

Ah, okay.

So, so far most of us just want to see the first one, but with more bands, and they don't actually have to be from the south?

The Slowest Bands Tour (Low, Codeine, Bedhead/The New Year, Red House Painters, etc.) [They walk to each tour date and finish crossing the Continental USA in two years]
The "Every Band on Decaydance Records Play Shows In A Fucking Volcano and die at the first date, pussies" Tour
The "Same Deal As The Last One, Except It's All The Bands The NME Hawks" Tour (Arctic Monkeys, Scouting For Girls, The Wombats... fuck if I continue this list it's going to go on forever)
The "NOW GET IN THE GROUND" Bad Modern Old Und New Prog Band Tour (Coheed and Cambria, Muse, The Mars Volta, Rush)*
Tommydski ATP

Hah.

To be fair, I should probably remove them from the tour, but you know... it'd be like the granddad and the kids going out to go fishing, or in this case, go WIDDILY WIDDILY WOO SKRONK WIDDILY WOO on guitars. I guess it needs a better term to justify Rush being with the nu crop.

If I'd be allowed to only go to the parts of that tour involving Queen and Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd I'd be down.

Tommydski ATP

I'd see this. tommy, potential lineup plz?

I was just thinking last nigh, after Johnny was all "woo i saw Baroness woo" and I was all "fuck you man" that the best chance Australia has of getting Baroness in this country is if Relapse Records put together a tour and sent down a bunch of bands that otherwise wouldn't be able to come down. So how about:

High On Fire
Pig Destroyer (who to be fair, have toured Australia and are back end of next month)
Baroness
Genghis Tron
Don Caballero
Coliseum

Maybe with Mastodon or Necrophagist or the DEP to pull in some bigger crowds. Oh and Alchemist representing for local talent.

I think maybe Crowbar should get added to my list, too. Course, CoC, Crowbar, and Down couldn't play at the same time, seeing as Down has the singers of the other two.

My ATP:

Hawkwind (with former members), Coil (reunited with Marc Almond on vocals), Current 93, Kraftwerk, Sol Invictus, Silver Apples, The Meads of Asphodel, Agalloch, Bauhaus, Ulver, My Dying Bride, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, The Strawbs, The Coffinshakers, Andrew King, Gary Numan, New Model Army, The Creatures, Diamanda Galas, Lumsk, Electric Wizard, Death in June, Alien Sex Fiend, The Bombs of Enduring Freedom, Xasthur, Of the Wand and the Moon, Skindred, The Legendary Pink Dots, Manorexia, Sigue Sigue Sputnik, The Threshold Houseboys Choir, Anaal Nathrakh, Boyd Rice & Friends, In Gowan Ring, Strawberry Switchblade (one-off reunion), Lustmord (one-off live show)

I'm not sure who else would come, and the bands would probably end up killing each other, but I would have a fucking BLAST.

Next time I am there, you can kick my ass for me. I'm not asking, I'm telling here.

I've never kicked anyone's ass before. I think maybe we should incite an old timey bar brawl, people all breakin' chairs and billiards cues and draggin' each other across the bar.

They should take all the feedback/loud/experimental bands (Sunn O)), MBV, Animal Collective, Mogwai, etc) into a "Winning Everything with a Wall of Noise" Tour (We.WON Tour). Essentially, you hook them up to those giant speakers the police use to drive hostage takers out from buildings and hook them up to a bunch of military vehicles. Then you rock out with sandy cock out. I figure this is a lot cheaper than whatever "sonic bullet" program the government had in place.

Alternatively, this tour outfit could be contracted for protests on capital hill. CDs from the tour will be sold as an audio colonic.

I was imagining with bands that are actually possible, so Almond takes over from Jhonn (he's the only person who could). There's already been something close to what you described as a show ender. This iteration of Current 93 from a performance on the Since Yesterday VHS actually consists of Dave Tibet, Douglas Pearce, Tony Wakeford and Rose McDowell. Add Boyd Rice, Thighpaulsandra and Andrew King (who would also be there of course) and...

Alsthough they might have a tough time deciding if the headliner is BSS or Feist.

*Boards of Canada performing Music Has The Right To Children
*Blur (or at this point Graham Coxon with any douchebag with a Cockney accent) performing Parklife

Anyway, I would love to see The Ultimate Prog Tour of Past and Present (Time Machine Not Available for Public Use) featuring bands like Coheed and Cambria, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Rush, Queen, Dream Theater, Symphony X, Genesis, Queensryche, Opeth, King's X, Conception, Liquid Tension Experiment, Pink Floyd, among others.

I would see that tour. Prog is so ridiculous. but I just love it. I guess it's because I was brought up learning music theory for most of my life, so I love the polyrhythms and odd time-signatures.
