Okay, it may be a silly little love movie, but mix it with music and it is amazing. I made my boyfriend promise to take me to go see it, and I actually did want to see it for more than just the fact that Michael Cera was in it (oh, how I miss the days of Arrested Development.)

Anyways, what was the general reception to this movie? I say that if you have not seen it yet, get to it. This is basically the dream of many little music-loving gals out there, and definitely a great movie.

BTW, it was based on a book. I did not know that until I saw the opening credits. WTF?

I don't know how to feel about this movie. It looks charming and actually pretty funny, but it basically seems like a bunch of other not-really-indie-but-disguised-as-indie movies mashed together, but this time without a real point. People are snarky, talk about music, walk around and Michael Cera is confused and nervous. I will probably see it though, cautiously.

Man, whenever I hear or see anything about this movie all I can think is, "Oh shit, Scott Pilgrim has to be better than this".

Still, I will most probably check it out.

...I think it looks like shit to be honest. If it -is- good, the trailers aren't doing it any justice and I have no interest in seeing it. If I do, I'll probably rent it after it comes out on DVD.

I say without shame that I loved this movie.

I had a mega-crush on Kat Dennings before this movie, so it's great to see her have a more prominent role.

I enjoyed it.

I don't think that movies can be sellouts, honestly. The actors wouldn't mean anything they said anyway.

It was a nice little love story, it was funny, and it had fucking Devendra Banhart in it, with a turban on his head, in a convenience store. That gives any movie points, ~~even~~ if it were a porno.

Not going to go out and tattoo Michael Cera's face onto my face because of it or anything, but I enjoyed watching it, and it had a great soundtrack.

yeah, he's pretty good at playing the character he plays, but he doesn't have any range at all. Some actors have built successful careers out of playing the same character over and over again. Woody Allen is probably the most prominent example, though he's recently been stepping back from center stage in his films precisely because people were getting sick of the "Woody Allen" character. Also, Cera's shtick works so long as he can be a dopey teenager. Once he finishes puberty, his career is over unless he can find some other character to play (or better yet, find some range).

I think I might have liked it more if I was thirteen again.

I think that is the only part of the movie I have liked from the trailer, and all it seems to be is random violence. Probably never seeing it, didn't like Superbad and never saw Juno

Michael Cera has just gotten annoying. He was fun in Juno, but it was pretty much a bit part. As a real lead he got boring. I don't get that whole Michael Cera being a sex god thing either..

It had a really nice soundtrack. It would have been nice to have gotten a little more gay rock in there, I was hoping to hear some Pansy Division, but the soundtrack was really excellent regardless.

I really liked Kat Dennings, and the Jerk Offs made the movie significantly more enjoyable. My major qualm with the movie is (SPOILER) that Nick and Norah are recorded in the studio, and then just leave their quicky on tape, for her father to find. Yuck.

I saw it on Friday. I liked it but for some reason it seemed to short for me. I will probably end up seeing it again in theatres because I, like so many others, love these types of 'indie romantic comedies'. Plus, his gay bandmates were pretty hilarious. I am really anxious about the Scott Pilgrim movie and totally wish Michael Cera WASN'T in it, as much as I like him. I just love Scott Pilgrim much, much more.

i haven't seen it but my major qualm is that SPOILER ALERT it takes him like a minute to finish her off, thanks nick & norah's infinite playlist for teaching an entire generation of misfit teens who identify somewhat with the characters in this movie that if they don't have their first orgasm within thirty seconds they're weird, also vampire weekend

Sorry, this movie just kind of gets on my nerves.

Cera will be good as Scott Pilgrim though. Dude made Impossible Is The Opposite Of Possible for McSweeney's. Recognize.

Guys, if you read interviews with Cera, that's how he is in real life. He doesn't really...act. That's just his personality. Which kind of bugs me.

Anyway, I saw this on a date. It was what I expected it to be: amusing, lighthearted, and generally devoid of any real substance. Not a bad movie, but not one I'd pay to see again.

Clearly he realized this and made Eagle Eye. Also this is why his bit part in I, Robot was his best role.

It was dece. I liked it...probably more than I would normally because it's been a while since I've seen a movie. The soundtrack was nice, Kat Dennings was attractive. The use of the word "JAP" is still really jarring to me because until recently I had only heard it as a derogatory term for Japanese people. Also, in answer to Johnny's complaint (the one that isn't vampire weekend), I'd say to the extent that movies use ellipsis pretty much all of the time I don't think it's really a valid complaint. It just skips from one exciting thing to the next.

Johnny, consider the fact that twenty-five of those seconds were spent struggling to take her pants and bra off, so the realism is restored, considering the remaining five seconds may have been her ringtone or something.

And, ignoring the knock-offedness controversy, I liked the movie. As far as everything seeming forced and awkward, well, it's a teen movie.

I was a little pissed at Nick's ex being the typical, hate-able, non-dimensional ho-bag, but I have about three of her in my business class, come to think of it.

I have not seen this movie, but this review by a dude who I usually agree with does not really make me want to see it. He raises some good points about "indie films" nowadays, so I would recommend giving it a read!

I think Norah's voice irritated me a lot.

Also, there were about three likeable characters in the film. They were all bandmates who were not used enough. Nick was pathetic. Norah was boring as hell and got awfully irrationally mad at Nick considering that she was still with somebody right up to the end. Their exes were completely one-dimensional jerks and in the end, I didn't feel like fate brought them together or that they were soul mates. It was more like they got together because everbody else was a dick. Lack of options does not a poignant, madcap romance make.
