Favorite movie...based on the soundtrack
« on: 13 Oct 2008, 08:42 »

Ok thought this would be kinda fun......
So I guess what I'm looking for in this thread is your favorite movie based on it's musical soundtrack in correlation to scenes .
You could also go for favorite director(based on overall compilation of their musical choice in all of their films ect...)

I find that Tarantino often makes excellent choices of music relating to the scenes of his films.
and I am not just saying this because he is Quentin Tarantino...promise.

Conan the Barbarian, followed very closely by Oldboy, and then Werckmeister Harmonies (only two songs in the soundtrack, and they have the same melody).  The director, Bela Tarr, has used Mihaly Vig for all of his scores since Satantango, in which Mihaly Vig played a lead role.  I should also add that there is about 20 minutes of music for Satantango, which is 7 and a half hours long.

2001: A Space Odyssey

Or if I'm in one of my "folksy" moods, I'd say Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?

The Everything is Illuminated score is probably one of my favorites of all time.

I even convinced a friend to watch the movie based on playing her the soundtrack for weeks.  She had read the book and did not enjoy the experience and was therefore a little weary of giving the movie a shot.  After hearing the music for a while she became interested in the actual movie.

I will admit I had my gun loaded upon reading the words "Lord of the Rings", but your point does prove well. haha

And, as far as, Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?, I totally agree.
Not only did I personally find the music enjoyable to listen to, but I also was astonished by how each song really made the corresponding scene that much better.
The music really did "make" that movie. (George Clooney in a hair net was also a plus haha)

No way, the best movie soundtrack ever is for Until the End of the World.

It's also a pretty good flick, too.

Until the End of the World.

Dang. And I was gonna be all "Um Trainspotting hurrr." Although it does seem a Danny Boyle directed film has a pretty good chance of having a decent soundtrack.

Pi had a great soundtrack, as did Full Metal Jacket, with all the 70's tracks.

And +1 for Lord of the Rings part 1. I have it on CD, and some of the tracks make great listening on their own.

I quite like Hans Zimmer's work on the Pirates of the Caribbean series.  I don't know what else he's done though.

Eddie Vedder's soundtrack for Into the Wild was amazing.  I actually listened to the soundtrack for four or five months until i finally saw the movie.

Edit: "Fuckin In the Bushes" towards the end of Snatch was AWESOME

The Ry Cooder soundtrack is absolutely superb in every way. Of course it is probably also the best filmed movie ever though, that helps.

I'm surprised no one has said Once.  The power behind that movie and it's music coming from Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova.  Brilliant.

Also, this movie introduced me to The Frames indirectly.  Now I am hopelessly addicted.

2001 is awfully cool but possibly not my top choice. It is, however, my top choice for movies whose music/feel inspired a band to make an album based upon it.

Also, I realise it's not a movie... but the Simpsons episode 'Cape Feare' has one of the greatest scores I've ever heard. Sideshow Bob's theme gives me chills.
