I have nothing against the Shins either, but if I had a dollar for every person who told me to check out "this awesome unknown band" when Garden State came out...
In fact probably half of the cuts on the soundtrack are pretty great, but the album itself seemed to be a new touchstone for people to grab hold of once they figured "being indie" was cool.
Or something. I dunno.

There's nothing wrong with the Shins at all, it was the way the post was worded that made it funny.

Such things are a necessary evil. If she had played him "King of Carrot Flowers Pt. 1" instead of that Shins song, I doubt anyone would be complaining that a bunch of new people got into NMH because of it.
Also, that movie is amazing, fuck the haters.
