I love Paul Gross so much...I have heard not nice things about this movie and I am a little bit afraid.
But seriously, Paul Gross. Wicked dude.

That is a dreadful, dreadful, dreadful tagline. I mean, I've seen some stinkers, but that's gotta be the worst.

It's exciting to see a war movie that focuses on Canada.  But not really.  The whole romance aspect completely throws me off of ever watching this movie. If it was just a straight WWI movie about Canadians then I would find a movie theatre that's going to play the thing and watch it.  As for now, I have no interest at all in watching it...and it makes me feel slightly less patriotic....but only a little.

I'm still hopeful that it's a war movie with a romantic subplot (like Enemy at the Gates), rather than a romance movie with a war subplot (The English Patient).

But then, if I go into the movie with low expectations it'll be easier to meet and/or exceed them.

Don't die?

One of the biggest massacres in history... Puts modern conflict in perspective against this WWI slaughter.

Kickass song though  :-D

"With battle scenes that rival saving Private Ryan"
erm not so much.
Also I would just like to state that this movie failed on all levels to have any sort of dichotomous balance between the war and romance story, or in other words it was just a crappy movie.

Finally saw the movie (money was tight, and it finally came out on video).

Damn what a disappointment.  The combat scenes were good, not on the Saving Private Ryan level, but pretty good, but the entire homefront scene was so hamfisted and poorly done that I didn't care about any of the characters.  This makes me sad, as all I wanted was a decent Canadian War Movie - the Dieppe miniseries was OK, but dammit, I want to celebrate a Canadian accomplishment, not a defeat.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that although they included the First Nation soldier and the French Canadian, that wasn't their defining characteristic for the movie.

Other than that, the rule should be "Don't suck."

And apologies for the thread necromancy.
