Cyanin:
one thing: money
every game that looks pretty damn good costs 40-65 euro or more (i live in ireland by the way) and i haven't money to buy one yet, could anyone suggest a game for when funds are available? just name it, doesn't matter if it's out in less than a month or two for the 360.
oh, and damn you mister-spoilt-for-choice, (don't worry, i'm just damn jealous)

Hi Cyanin!
Well, do you mind narrowing down the question?
What system do you own?

If you have the xbox 360, and are short on cash, I would advice you to get previous titles that are masterpieces but no longer cost the full price.
In my case for instance, I just recently acquired Bioshock ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bioshock ) at 30 dlls used, the collectors edition (sweetness) ; In Europe things might be a little different, but it is worth the shot.

In the same line of thought I think The orange box is a pretty safe bet ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Orange_Box ) .
And Mass Effect ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mass_effect ) .

If you meant what NEW game do I recommend, you have a few choices:

Gears of War 2 ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gears_of_war_2 ) is a very solid title, albeit a little cliche, that has a tremendous online value, and a very interesting single player proposal. If you like third person shooters, that would be it.

Left 4 Dead ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left_4_dead ) is one of the forums favourites, and there's a tread around of people exchanging xbox dogtags, so the online comunity is pretty solid. It is a first person shooter centered on 4 people surviving the zombie apocalypse. It relies highly in cooperative action, and  the single campaign is almost not existing. If you are a social player, this is your game; if you are a loner on the other hand, it might not be for you. In any case give it a try, there's a free demo at live! marketplace.

I DO NOT recommend Mirror's Edge ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mirrors_edge ) the game is really short and there are some inherent flaws, like the lack of fluid runs or multiple paths (for more info, go to giantbomb.com and see what they have to say about it, I mostly agree with what they say)

Lastly, if you are talking about something new AND cheap , I think Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts
( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banjo-Kazooie:_Nuts_%26_Bolts ) is as good as they come, the game is really eclectic, so you might want to check some reviews before doing anything (again, there's giantbomb, g4tv as well) but is NEW and only 40 dlls ( Hope they respect the price in Ireland)
Also, in the new&cheap category Viva Pinata 2 ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viva_Pinata_2 ) is another 40 dll contender, its a simulator where you have to take care of your pinatas, very much as if you were in a zoo or a garden. Take care of them being careful about predators, giving them special facilities, and the works.
Is not for everyone, nonetheless is cheap, new and novel. Again, I recommend you to give it a careful read in a review site of your choice.

Hope any of those recommendations help,
Cheers.

Cyanin:
hey, cheers for the reply, i've got the 360, yeah, price is generally pretty good over here, ah bioshock, damn good game, enjoyed it a lot, you get some good replay time out of it too.
yeah, i have the first gears of war, great game, bit glitchy from time to time, and damn short for my taste, still great though, i'm mostly into third person shooters, or RPG's, i've had my eye on gta4 for a while, a mate of mine has it and i'd like to follow the story for a change instead of random grenade/ police car/ motorbike rampages, fun as they are, they can get old until you freshen em up with some explosions.
i'm also interested in getting back to the final fantasy series, dropped it after X-2 due to obvious reasons, any suggestions on a good one for that?
cheers for the suggestions so far.

just one last thing actually, left 4 dead anything like dead rising? liked that game, cept the controls were just...different. is it more shooting/moving/talking based?

Scandanavian War Machine:
besides the zombies, it's nothing like Dead Rising.

and Final Fantasy? well, if you stopped after X-2 then you really didn't miss much unless you count all the remakes/spin-offs that came out on the DS.
if you still have a PS2, go get XII. some people hated it, some loved it. i fall into the latter category.
