Can I play the "Japanese bands are kinda goofy" card to defend that one?

Oh man.  It seemed like if you were a fifteen year-old girl with low self-esteem and shitty taste in music, this band was essential.

I should have specified what they were listening to.  I completely agree, the Fake Sound of Progress is an excellent album, and actually one of the first albums i ever bought.  They were listening to that song...last train home or something, which was off their second, not near as good album.

Spot on. Turns out, she's bi now.

Mine was already bi then and is now exclusively into women. Last I heard she and her girlfriend plan to get married (they are 17).

God, it's almost funny how common these similarities are among the girls of our generation.

Also I am not sure why anybody still cares about 30 Seconds To Mars but I am willing to bet that 5 years from now they will be locked away in the same storage vaults as the rest of the terrible one-hit wonders of the world.

I spent the better portion of an hour today trying to figure out how Jared Leto, who is an awful waste as a musician, somehow maintains a decent acting career. He's done damn well in Fight Club and Requiem for a Dream, to name a few.

Chumbawamba

Are you kidding me?  Their many pre-"one hit wonder" albums are quite entertaining.

Also every English person I know remains steadfast in their love for Chumbawamba regardless of their later one-hit-wonder success.

And yes, there are still many, many Insane Clown Posse fans.

This phrase works no matter what you leave capitalized or uncapitalized.

Only to end up on a crappy 90s compilation cd advertised on late-night TV, right after the Girls Gone Wild commercial. Arguably the ultimate disgrace for any band.

In the words of Dr. David Thorpe -

Quote
I had a good derisive chuckle at Evanescence the first time their garish, ridiculous single “Bring Me to Life” turned up on the radio.

In my mind, it seemed obvious that anyone with half a brain would find the song instantly unbearable due to its melodramatic, quasi-Christian airs. I was horrified and indignant to learn that people had actually found something to like about this band. “Don’t worry,” said their misguided supporters. “Not all of their songs have that retarded rapping guy.” I was furthermore assured that much of their material was less reminiscent of Linkin Park with a female singer and more subtle and piano-driven. Their current single, “My Immortal” seems to be an example of this style, although the nasal, crooning vocal sounds not like the work of a credible rock band but more like the self-produced vanity album of the girl who shakily squeezed out “Bridge over Troubled Water” at your high school graduation. Some of the more impressionable male Evanescence apologists even sought to convince me that the lead singer was hot. I suppose she’s decent if you like ladies who walk that dangerous, razor-thin line between “obviously used to be fat” and “will probably be fat again very soon.” It’s also fairly bewildering to me that anything about this band could be misconstrued as “gothic.” She certainly doesn’t have the advantage of being marginally hilarious like some of the other bands the media has mistakenly labeled as gothic, like Marilyn Manson. There is absolutely nothing mysterious or alluring about her voice; a careful observer would realize that a single such as “My Immortal” is nothing more than a vocally inept version of a shitty pop ballad worthy of being a Christina Aguilera b-side. To call something so tame, boring and conventional “gothic” is an illustration of just how far our culture’s standards have slipped. I’d imagine it takes every ounce of Peter Murphy’s willpower just to get out of his coffin at dusk and face such a world.

Whatever happened to him, anyway?  They stopped doing Your Band Sucks at SA, and I recall hearing them say he was moving to another website or something, but I don't know where.  Dude was funny.

How old are you and what generation are you talking about? I was never into Evanescence. I was into girls however, but I knew that long before Amy Lee came around, who is admittedly alright, but would not be my first choice.

I'm not saying Evanescence made people bisexual. They did, however, seem to attract a fanbase of vapid goth girls who went out of their way to pretend to be bi so as to catch the attention of guys.

in a similar vein to the chumbawumba one-hit-wonder song, may i introduce you to another example of the vomit-inducing phenomenon that is the english football (soccer) supporters' shitty pop song.  baddiel and skinner's "three lions" was the only tolerable one, and the real bottom of the barrel is "Vindaloo" by Fat Les.  fucking ridiculous:

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=0T1pXsJp_go

i'd like to clarify at this point that, despite being english, i do not worship spicy asian food (or claim it to be an "authentic british food"), and i DEFINITELY do not support any football (soccer) team.

Oh god those girls annoyed the hell out of me. Mostly because I was all like "Nurr, hot girl with pink hair and sexy labret piercing is hitting on me. Must get her number..." only to find out she was not really into girls. I got turned down so many times in this fashion. Scarred my entire high school perspective and now I am a bitter old* woman!

At my school, there was actually one guy that did the same thing, but to attract the attention of girls. I think it worked. He actually dated one of the few girls at our school that did that for a week or so. She tended to go through boyfriends rather fast, to the point of some of us joking about starting a pool for how long her new boyfriend was going to last. She wasn't a bad person or anything, I liked her, but that doesn't mean that we weren't going to make jokes at her expense, nobody gets that kind of treatment, not Gandhi or Mother Teresa.
