Although i'm a huge fan thats a pretty outlandish claim. I heard some of the demos for the new album and while they are great songs it'll be interesting to see how they link to form an 'opera'. It seems to me it'll be more like 'The Crane Wife' where there is an underlying theme with some songs being directly connected but otherwise it'll just be another, hopefully great, Decemberists album.

I always wanted to like the idea of Rock Opera...  Though I dont recall a time when I actually liked one...  Or knowingly listened to on.

Is anyone else considering the possibility that Meloy is fucking with us, at least a little?

I consider anything anyone allows consumers to.... consume, to be a gift I am grateful for.  If it sucks it sucks, if its great its great, Im happy for the opportunity.

I've heard parts 1-5 at one of colin's solo shows, as well as some live recordings of another "hazards of love" song, and the songs are definitely all part of one story arc. The connections are a bit more obvious than those on The Tain. Maybe some of the new songs you heard were part of the Always The Bridesmaid singles series?

These are the tracks i've heard that i believe are from the new album:

Hazards of Love parts 1 & 2
Hazards of Love part 3
Burying Avy
Zoot
Raincoat

Don't know if they're the same as other people have heard but i don't see the link between Zoot, Raincoat and the others? Burying Avy links to Hazards of Love 1,2 & 3 if i'm right though.
